Job Overview:
The position of Driver, SSAL2 at WFP involves providing efficient and safe transportation for authorized personnel and commodities, particularly in the context of flood emergency operations in Kathmandu and surrounding districts such as Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading. The incumbent will report directly to the Management Services Assistant (Fleet Management) and will be responsible for ensuring that all transportation activities adhere to UN safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security regulations. This role is crucial for facilitating the movement of personnel and supplies, thereby supporting WFP's mission to deliver humanitarian assistance effectively. The driver will also be expected to maintain the assigned vehicle in optimal condition, ensuring it is clean, well-equipped, and mechanically sound, while also keeping accurate records of vehicle usage and maintenance. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to safety and efficiency in all driving tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver, SSAL2 will carry out a variety of tasks under the guidance of the Management Services Assistant (Fleet Management), including:

• Providing safe transportation for authorized personnel and delivering commodities according to authorized routing and UN safety regulations.
• Maintaining accurate vehicle logbooks and reporting daily on the mechanical status of the vehicle to ensure efficient use and cost-effectiveness.
• Keeping the assigned vehicle clean and in good working condition, ensuring all necessary equipment is functional and that scheduled maintenance is performed timely.
• Following established rules for field deliveries and reporting any accidents or issues to the supervisor immediately.
• Assisting official personnel and visitors at entry points, providing help with visa and customs formalities.
• Performing basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required, including the delivery and collection of items and payment of office bills.
• Carrying out any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor to support flood emergency operations effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and certification to operate the assigned vehicle in accordance with local regulations. They should have a strong understanding of driving rules and regulations, as well as professional transport protocols. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a client-oriented approach, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility. Knowledge of safety standards and equipment, as well as the ability to perform minor vehicle repairs, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have basic first aid knowledge and the ability to use communication tools effectively.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education, specifically the passing of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) at the end of Grade 1

• Formal driver training is also required, along with a valid driver's license to operate the assigned vehicle.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential, along with experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Experience in defensive driving is considered an asset, as is familiarity with local roads and conditions.

Languages:
Fluency in both spoken and written English and Nepali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.

The position is offered under a Special Service Agreement (SSA) contract type, with a duration of three months. The duty station is Kathmandu, Nepal.
