Job Overview:
The Driver position at IOM involves the responsibility of driving IOM vehicles to transport staff and goods in a safe and cost-effective manner. The successful candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Resource Management Officer and the direct supervision of the Supply Chain Officer in Bujumbura. The role requires the incumbent to manage the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s), ensuring their roadworthiness and cleanliness. The driver will also be responsible for keeping records of spare parts, conducting monthly inventories, and ensuring that the vehicle is used only for official business as advised by the supervisor. The position emphasizes the importance of confidentiality and discretion in discussions involving IOM and its officials, as well as taking proper actions to reduce potential security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security threats to IOM officials and property.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Driver include:

• Driving assigned IOM office vehicle(s) for the transportation of IOM staff and authorized goods.
• Managing the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) to ensure roadworthiness, including daily checks of tires, brakes, engine oil, and fan belts.
• Arranging for minor repairs and ensuring that the vehicles are kept clean.
• Ensuring that vehicles undertake regular service intervals and keeping records of spare parts.
• Finding the most direct and safe routes to destinations.
• Ensuring that vehicles are used only for official business as advised by the supervisor.
• Preparing daily log sheets and monthly reports summarizing statistics related to mileage and fuel consumption.
• Maintaining confidentiality and discretion in discussions involving IOM officials.
• Taking actions to reduce potential security threats to IOM officials and property. 1
• Meeting official personnel at airports and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required. 1
• Collecting and delivering mail, documents, and other communications/items. 1
• Assisting country office staff with simple clerical duties when needed. 1
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Driver position include:

• A high school degree/certificate with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
• A valid national driver’s license.
• Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
• Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles.
• Skills in minor vehicle repairs and knowledge of radio, email, telephone, and other applications.
• Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor requirements, road safety regulations, and UNDSS security procedures.
• Preventive vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to drive different vehicle types (4x4s, buses, trucks, armored vehicles where applicable).
• Skills in route planning and navigation, including remote field locations. 1
• Basic computer skills (email, GPS/TBS, mobile applications, vehicle tracking systems).

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school degree or certificate, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience. Candidates should have experience in driving various types of vehicles and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Experience in minor vehicle repairs and familiarity with UN and bilateral donor requirements is also essential.

Languages:
All IOM staff members are required to be fluent in one of the IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish. For this specific position, fluency in French and Kirundi is required, both oral and written. A working knowledge of English is desirable, and proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

This position is open to Nationals only. The appointment is subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, and any residency or visa requirements. The selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
