Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Information Analyst position at UNRWA involves a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of UNRWA personnel, assets, and operations. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of Security, Policy and Planning, and will be responsible for leading the department's analysis and forecasting efforts. This includes monitoring security incidents, analyzing political developments, and producing situation assessments to inform decision-making. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying security information requirements and developing trend analyses to assess conflict vulnerabilities. The analyst will also manage the Security Information Management System (SIMS) and enhance its functionality, while providing training and building capacity among staff. Effective communication across various levels of the organization is essential, as the analyst will coordinate with key stakeholders to gather timely security information and support the integration of programmatic risk management initiatives. The position may require travel within the Agency's areas of operation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Security Information Analyst include:

• Monitoring and analyzing security information that could impact UNRWA operations, including security incidents and local media reports.
• Identifying security information requirements and developing comprehensive trend analyses.
• Researching and producing situation assessments and security risk analyses for specific threats.
• Managing the functionality of the Security Information Management System (SIMS) and enhancing its use across the agency.
• Supervising the integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) methodologies as risk management tools.
• Strengthening communication channels across the agency to ensure timely and accurate information flow.
• Coordinating with stakeholders to gather key security information and support protection, gender, and programmatic initiatives.
• Developing and implementing strategies and standards for security management.
• Traveling within the Agency's areas of operation as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Political or Social Science, International Relations, Statistics, or a related field. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in applied political or security analysis and research at the national or international level is required. Experience in security management, peacekeeping operations, military, police, or national intelligence is essential. Candidates must also have at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA and their country of citizenship, unless they are already serving as international staff members in the UN Common System. Additionally, candidates must disclose any outside activities that may affect their employment with UNRWA.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) from an accredited institution in fields such as Political or Social Science, International Relations, or Statistics. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of security analysis and risk management in the context of UNRWA's operations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience in applied political or security analysis and research. This experience should ideally include roles as a professional analyst or political affairs officer. Candidates should also have experience in security management, peacekeeping operations, or related fields, with a strong emphasis on international experience outside their home country.

Languages:
For this position, proficiency in English is mandatory, with a minimum level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. This position is a UN Regular Budget post with a contract duration of one year, which may be extended based on performance and organizational needs.
