UN Public Information Intern Supporting the Substantive Work of the Justice and Corrections Service

Job Overview:
The UN Public intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Information Intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) within the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in strategic communication and public outreach related to justice and corrections in peacekeeping contexts. The intern will assist in developing multimedia products, drafting publications, and creating content for social media platforms, thereby contributing to the UN's mission of promoting rule of law and justice in conflict-affected areas. The position is flexible, allowing for full-time or part-time arrangements, and can be conducted remotely or in-person, depending on the intern's needs and preferences. The expected duration of the internship is between four to six months, with a desired start date of March 1, 2027, or sooner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: assisting the JCS with strategic communication and public outreach efforts; developing and designing communications and multimedia products for various platforms; drafting and editing publications such as fact sheets, brochures, and newsletters; conceptualizing and creating data visualizations; researching and compiling information for social media content; monitoring and analyzing social media statistics and web analytics; and performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This role requires a proactive approach to communication and collaboration, as well as a commitment to the UN's values and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This may include experience in communication, public relations, or related fields, as well as familiarity with justice and corrections issues.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
