Job Overview:
The Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert position is situated within the Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) of the IMF, specifically in the Global Markets Analysis (GA) Division. This role is pivotal in monitoring and assessing developments in global financial markets and systemically important financial institutions. The expert will analyze risks to global financial stability and contribute to the Fund's understanding of financial risks and the necessary policies to mitigate them. The position involves producing key outputs such as the Global Markets Monitor, financial market presentations, the Global Financial Stability Report, and various research notes and papers. The expert will also engage in capacity development and support the IMF's outreach activities in London, making this role integral to the Fund's mission of ensuring financial stability worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert include:
  • Analyzing macro-financial developments and financial stability risks in major economies across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, contributing to thematic notes that inform the IMF's policy recommendations.
  • Contributing to the analysis presented in the IMF’s Global Financial Stability Report and other research outputs, including blogs and ad hoc reports.
  • Building tools and developing databases to facilitate high-frequency market surveillance across various asset classes, focusing on both developed and emerging markets within the European time zone.
  • Establishing and maintaining financial market contacts to provide context for asset price movements, assess emerging stability risks, and brief senior management within the MCM.
  • Supporting the daily operations of the GA Division, including the production of the Global Markets Monitor and the Weekly London Update, which covers market developments in Europe and EMEA.
  • Assisting in managing practical issues related to the London office, including administrative, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and IT matters, ensuring smooth operational functionality.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree in finance, economics, econometrics, or a related field. They should have at least four years of relevant professional experience in financial markets or macroeconomic analysis, ideally gained in financial institutions, the public sector, or international organizations. A demonstrated knowledge of financial markets and a proven ability to analyze and interpret asset market developments are essential. Strong analytical skills are required, with the ability to conduct high-quality data analysis independently and collaboratively. Candidates should be able to deliver concise and insightful written analysis under tight deadlines and possess excellent communication skills to engage effectively in an international environment. A self-starter attitude and the ability to work autonomously are also important. Familiarity with economic and financial databases and information services, such as Bloomberg, CEIC, and Haver Analytics, is necessary, along with strong skills in Excel and data management.
