Job Overview:
The Industry Specialist - Financial Services position at the World Bank Group is designed for an experienced investment professional who will contribute to the Financial Services Sector (FSS) department. This role involves leading technical workstreams that support IFC’s insurance, housing, and banking businesses. The specialist will conduct market assessments, regulatory positioning, and competitive analysis to identify actionable investment and advisory opportunities. The position requires a strong technical background in financial services, particularly in banking and insurance, and the ability to design innovative solutions that leverage WBG products and capabilities. The specialist will also prepare high-quality written outputs for various audiences, engage with clients and partners, and support portfolio management by monitoring sector developments and identifying emerging risks. This role is crucial in advancing the WBG's mission of alleviating poverty and promoting sustainable economic growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Industry Specialist include leading or co-leading technical workstreams for IFC’s insurance, housing, and banking sectors. This involves conducting market assessments, regulatory positioning, and competitive dynamics analysis. The specialist will support business development through sector analysis and client opportunity identification, contributing to the design of innovative solutions and investment opportunities. Responsibilities also include providing technical inputs for investment and advisory engagements, preparing high-quality written outputs such as investment documents and market intelligence briefs, and engaging with clients and partners to identify new business opportunities. The specialist will work closely with teams across the Prosperity Vertical to deliver joint solutions and support portfolio management by monitoring developments and preparing recommendations for investment teams. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior analysts and contributing to knowledge management efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field. A minimum of 6-8 years of relevant professional experience in banking, insurance, reinsurance, investment, advisory, consulting, or development finance is required. Strong knowledge of the financial services sector, particularly in banking and insurance, is essential, including familiarity with business models, financial statements, regulatory frameworks, and risk management practices. Experience with WBG products and instruments is advantageous, as is the ability to conduct technical analysis and translate findings into practical recommendations. Candidates should demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical skills, proficiency in financial analysis and Excel-based modeling, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams under pressure.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Business Administration, or Public Policy. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that candidates have the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 6-8 years of relevant professional experience. This experience should be in areas such as banking, insurance, reinsurance, investment, advisory, consulting, or development finance. Candidates should have a proven track record of conducting technical analysis, preparing high-quality written outputs, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Languages:
