Job Overview:
The IDB Group is seeking an active graduate student for an internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position under the Consultant modality. This internship is part of the 2027 Winter Internship Program, which is a competitive paid opportunity designed for university students from member countries. The program aims to provide participants with insights into development work and corporate management within the Bank, while also allowing them to gain professional experience through on-the-job learning. Interns will support data analysis and the preparation of research papers focused on economic empowerment and social sector issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. Responsibilities include cleaning and harmonizing survey data, contributing to econometric analyses, constructing policy environment indicators, and assisting in literature reviews and drafting research papers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: cleaning and harmonizing survey and administrative data from sources such as ENDES and ENAHO in Peru, and ENOE, ENDIREH, and ENASEM/MHAS in Mexico; contributing to the design and implementation of descriptive and econometric analyses using survey data; constructing policy environment indicators by compiling and coding information from administrative records, legal reforms, and program rules; conducting literature reviews for research papers; drafting research papers; and performing complementary analytical work as needed by the research team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be active graduate students enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program in fields such as economics, sociology, political science, public policy, or public health from an accredited university. They should have knowledge of recent academic literature on labor force participation, employment, and social sector issues in low- and middle-income countries. Familiarity with research on household welfare and violence prevention is considered a plus. Additionally, candidates must be nationals of an IDB member country and should not have family members working at the IDB or IDB Invest.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is that candidates must be active graduate students, with a graduation date that is after the internship period. A minimum of 50% of coursework must be completed at the time of application. Candidates are required to submit their resume, academic transcripts (official or unofficial), and a university letter certifying their student status when applying.

Experience:
Candidates should have strong quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in econometric analysis of large-scale survey and panel microdata. Familiarity with statistical programming, preferably in R or Python (Stata is acceptable), is also required. Knowledge of modern causal-inference methods, particularly recent developments in difference-in-differences and Bartik shift-share designs, is a strong plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is considered a plus. Knowledge of Spanish is particularly advantageous as much of the survey documentation is in Spanish.

• The contract type is Intern Consultant, with a duration of two months. Candidates must be available to work during these fixed dates, which cannot be modified.
