Job Overview:
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Intern will play a vital role in supporting UNOPS' DEI initiatives, focusing on community engagement and fostering an inclusive workplace. This position is designed for individuals seeking hands-on experience in the field of diversity and inclusion within a large international organization. The intern will assist in the implementation of various DEI initiatives, providing support to employee resource groups (ERGs) and the internal DEI network. The role involves engaging with diverse communities and contributing to activities that promote equity across various dimensions, including gender, disability, generations, LGBTQIA+, race, and geography. The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in managing strategic communications, tracking social impact metrics, and fostering inclusive communities. Interns will have access to the UNOPS Learning Zone, where they can participate in training related to gender and diversity, human resources management, project management, and other relevant areas. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Community Engagement Support: The intern will assist in coordinating the day-to-day functioning of all UNOPS Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and the internal DEI network. This includes scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and supporting engagement activities across ERGs. The intern will also track participation, activities, and key outputs, flagging any gaps or follow-up needs. Additionally, the intern will support cross-ERG coordination for joint events, campaigns, or shared initiatives, and assist with activities related to the Youth Engagement Platform and other internal DEI communities.
  • Coordination of DEI Activities and Initiatives: The intern will help organize meetings, workshops, campaigns, and events related to DEI initiatives and ERGs. Responsibilities include taking meeting notes, tracking action points, and maintaining trackers to monitor activities, timelines, and outputs. The intern will follow up with stakeholders on agreed actions as guided.
  • Communications Support: The intern will assist in drafting and preparing internal communication materials, such as emails, intranet posts, and campaign messages. They will support the dissemination of DEI communications across internal platforms and help coordinate timelines for campaigns and key observances. The intern will also ensure visibility and participation in ERG activities through effective communication.
  • Administrative and Operational Support: General administrative support will be provided to the DEI team, including scheduling, documentation, and filing. The intern will assist with onboarding coordination for facilitators or contributors to DEI initiatives and manage DEI email platforms, ensuring prompt responses to internal queries and inquiries.

Required Qualifications:

Educational Background:
Applicants for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Intern position must have completed a minimum first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) or be enrolled in a postgraduate program. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the start date of the internship are also eligible to apply. This educational background ensures that candidates possess the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of diversity and inclusion in a workplace setting.

Experience:
While no prior work experience is required for this internship, candidates with some experience in human resources, social justice, diversity and inclusion, social inclusion, disability inclusion, special education, psychology, social pedagogy, or related fields will be considered favorably. Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNOPS. Additionally, proficiency in French and Spanish at an intermediate level is desirable.
