Job Overview: The Technical Assistance and Partnership Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) within UNEP's Climate Change Division. This position involves working closely with the CTCN team to deliver technical assistance requests and response plans, particularly focusing on Eastern Europe and Africa. The specialist will also be responsible for fostering partnerships and programs related to mitigation and digitalization, including the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in climate action. The role requires a proactive approach to engage with National Designated Entities (NDEs) and network members, ensuring effective capacity building and collaboration in the region. The position is home-based and expected to last for 12 months, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and strong communication skills in a multicultural environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Technical Assistance and Partnership Specialist include: A – Supporting the development and delivery of the CTCN technical assistance portfolio in Eastern Europe and Africa, which involves assisting countries in developing technical assistance requests, reviewing submissions for eligibility and prioritization, designing and implementing response plans, monitoring compliance with timelines, and contributing to post-technical assistance activities. B – Fostering partnerships and programs on mitigation and digitalization, which includes identifying potential activities, developing concepts for partnerships, engaging stakeholders, and collaborating with the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee on AI initiatives. C – Engaging with NDEs and network members in Eastern Europe by building relationships, organizing forums and workshops, coordinating logistic support, and identifying opportunities for collaboration. D – Performing other tasks as directed by the Director of CTCN, including providing inputs to the CTCN Advisory Board and contributing to the formulation of the CTCN Programme of Work and Annual Operating Plans.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in engineering, energy systems, environmental science, or a related field. Additionally, candidates must have at least 5 years of professional experience in energy, climate change, and international development. Experience with climate change issues in Africa is required, while experience in Eastern Europe is desirable. Candidates should possess good knowledge of climate change mitigation issues and demonstrated expertise in stakeholder consultation and participatory project development. Experience working with international organizations and familiarity with UNFCCC activities are also advantageous. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as engineering, energy systems, environmental science, or a related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complex issues related to climate change and technical assistance.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the fields of energy, climate change, and international development. Candidates should have a proven track record of working on climate change issues, particularly in different countries in Africa, with additional experience in Eastern Europe being a plus. Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly languages relevant to the Eastern European region, as it would enhance communication and collaboration with local stakeholders and partners.
