Job Overview:
The National Consultant on Trekking Routes in Kyrgyzstan will play a crucial role in developing an atlas of the best trekking routes in the country as part of the OSCE's Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions (2023 - 2027). This position involves collaborating with local stakeholders to identify, assess, and document trekking routes that vary in difficulty and accessibility. The consultant will be responsible for drafting a comprehensive work plan, collecting and processing data, and preparing materials that highlight the unique features of each trekking route. The ultimate goal is to create an atlas that not only serves as a guide for tourists but also promotes sustainable tourism practices in Kyrgyzstan's mountainous regions. The consultant will work closely with the Federation and the Agency to ensure that the atlas meets the needs of both local communities and international visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:

• Drafting a detailed work plan that outlines specific activities and deadlines, which must be approved by the Federation’s President.
• Identifying and compiling a list of popular trekking destinations across various regions of Kyrgyzstan, including Naryn, Talas, Chuy, Issyk-Kul, and Jalal-Abad.
• Preparing comprehensive descriptions of each trekking route, including logistical details, historical context, and highlights of interest for tourists.
• Collecting and organizing photographic materials that showcase the trekking routes and their key features.
• Submitting drafts of the atlas content for review and making necessary revisions based on feedback from the Federation and POiB management.
• Developing Monthly Progress Reports (MPR) to track the progress of the project and ensure that all deliverables are met in a timely manner.
• Finalizing the design and layout of the atlas and submitting a final report on the activities carried out during the consultancy period.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Environmental Studies, Journalism, Industrial Engineering, Tourism, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in areas such as climate change, journalism, sustainable development, environmental protection, or tourism is required. Experience in developing national standards and training programs for mountain guides and trekking guides in Kyrgyzstan is highly desirable. Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and possess a strong understanding of gender awareness and sensitivity in their work.

Educational Background:
The position requires a university degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Studies, Journalism, Industrial Engineering, or Tourism. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of environmental issues, tourism development, and effective communication strategies necessary for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of professional experience in fields related to climate change, sustainable development, environmental protection, or tourism. This experience should include working with international development partners or projects, which is considered an asset. The ability to develop training programs and materials for guides in the trekking and mountaineering sectors is also important.

Languages:
Professional fluency in Russian and Kyrgyz is mandatory, with excellent communication skills in both languages. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the consultant's ability to produce materials for a broader audience.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered under a Special Service Agreement (SSA) contract type, with a duration of four months. The consultant will be expected to work full-time and will be compensated based on their qualifications and experience, in accordance with OSCE established rates.
