Job Overview: The Price Survey Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in conducting a comprehensive price survey aimed at determining the cost of living for United Nations common system staff in Canada, specifically in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto. This position involves collecting market price data for a basket of goods and services from selected outlets in Montreal. The consultant will work closely with two pricing teams over a period of 10 working days, assisting in planning and executing the price collection process. The consultant is expected to provide valuable insights into local market conditions and ensure that the collected data meets the required specifications. This role is essential for ensuring that the pricing teams can accurately assess the cost of living for UN staff in the region, thereby contributing to informed decision-making regarding compensation and benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for several key duties, including:
Assisting the pricing teams in planning and executing the collection of prices from designated stores and outlets as identified by the Survey Coordinator.
Providing relevant information on local market conditions to the pricing teams to facilitate accurate data collection.
Ensuring that the prices collected correspond to the approved outlets and meet the required item specifications.
Reviewing the outlets to be priced with the pricing teams to ensure accuracy and compliance with the survey requirements.
Advising on suitable alternative outlets when replacements are necessary.
Assisting the pricing teams in accessing outlets and obtaining necessary permissions from store managers.
Performing other related duties as assigned by the pricing team lead, which may include additional data analysis or reporting tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a successful completion of secondary level education or an equivalent qualification. Additional training or certification in statistics, economics, merchandise, or inventory management is considered an asset. Candidates should have shopping experience with a solid understanding of the Montreal market, as well as the ability to navigate the duty station using public transportation or personal means of transport. Experience in price collection or working with a statistical agency is advantageous. Candidates should also be available to complete the job within the specified time frame and demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with the pricing teams.
Educational Background: The essential educational requirement for this position is the successful completion of secondary level education or an equivalent qualification. Desirable qualifications include additional training or certification in relevant fields such as statistics, economics, merchandise, or inventory management, which would enhance the candidate's ability to perform the duties effectively.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant shopping experience and a good understanding of the Montreal market. Experience in price collection or working within a statistical agency is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates with work experience in international organizations or government settings, particularly within the UN system, will have an advantage. The ability to complete the job within the designated time frame is essential.
Languages: Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English and French is mandatory, as this is necessary for the proper interpretation of item specifications provided on the pricing forms. A working knowledge of any other language of the Organization, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance the candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The consultant must be an independent individual with no current or recent employment, contractual, or consultancy relationship with any organization of the United Nations Common System in Canada. Additionally, the consultant must not be an immediate relative of a UN Staff Member working in Canada. The consultancy fee is CAD$ 3,500.00, payable upon satisfactory completion of the contract as per the agreement signed by the consultant.
