Job Overview: The WBG is seeking a dynamic Manager for the Operational Risk Team, who will report to the WBG Operational Risk Director. This role involves leading a joint team responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the operational risk program across all WBG entities, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA). The successful candidate will manage a team of professionals and engage with a wide range of internal clients, as well as external clients, particularly in relation to the corporate insurance program. The position requires proactive thought leadership and innovation to enhance the value provided by the operational risk management framework, ensuring that it aligns with the institution's risk appetite and strategic objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Manager will oversee and manage operational risks, corporate insurance, and integrated risk oversight across all WBG entities. Key responsibilities include: integrating and delivering the annual operational risk work program; designing and overseeing scenario development for business continuity; developing training and awareness programs for staff; ensuring operational risk controls for external vendors; preparing quarterly risk reports for senior management and the Board; coordinating with business partners for timely risk identification; assisting senior management in managing non-financial risks; ensuring preparedness for operational risk events; advising on control gaps raised by internal audits; developing tools and processes for risk anticipation; coordinating with various units to address technology and system risks; monitoring risk mitigation plans; coordinating response efforts for significant operational risk events; maintaining the corporate insurance portfolio; and providing strategic direction for the operational risk program.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in business administration, technology, finance, or a relevant field. They should have at least 12 years of experience in operational risk management, integrated risk oversight, systems resilience, or operations within multilateral development banks (MDBs). Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills are essential, along with a demonstrated track record of innovation in operational risk management practices. Candidates should also have excellent relationship-building and communication skills, proven project management abilities, and flexibility to adapt to evolving institutional needs. Professional certifications in risk management are considered an advantage.
Educational Background: An advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in business administration, technology, finance, or a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of operational risk management and integrated risk oversight.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in operational risk management, integrated risk oversight, systems resilience, or operations within multilateral development banks (MDBs). Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in additional languages is preferred but not required, as the primary communication within the organization and with stakeholders will be conducted in English.
