The intern will assist in organizing events, documenting discussions, and evaluating training courses, thereby gaining valuable experience in the field of human rights advocacy and international relations. The internship is set to last for three months, with the possibility of extension, and is expected to commence in October 2026, although the start date may be subject to change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the ODIHR's mission, including:
  • Monitoring the implementation of tolerance and non-discrimination commitments by OSCE participating states, which involves conducting research and analyzing developments in these areas.
  • Assisting in the preparation of written materials such as reports, overviews, and briefing papers that address general or specific issues related to tolerance and non-discrimination.
  • Supporting the organization and preparation of events, ensuring that all logistical aspects are managed effectively.
  • Taking notes and writing records of meetings to document discussions and outcomes.
  • Assisting with the monitoring and evaluation of events and training courses to assess their effectiveness and impact.
  • Contributing to the preparation of ODIHR’s annual hate crime reporting, which is a critical component of the organization's work in promoting human rights.
  • Performing other related tasks as assigned by supervisors, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to engage in various aspects of the department's work.

Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet several necessary qualifications:
  • The upper age limit for applicants is set at 30 years.
  • Candidates should be from an OSCE participating state, ensuring that the internship is accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds within the organization.
  • Applicants must be students in their final year of full-time studies from an accredited institution in fields such as Journalism, Humanities, Political Science, Law, International Relations, or similar disciplines, or they should be recent graduates or postgraduates who have completed their studies within the last two years.
  • Previous exposure to or experience in dealing with human rights issues is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's understanding of the field.
  • A good working knowledge of English, both oral and written, is essential, while knowledge of Russian is highly desirable.
  • Proven competence in research and analytical writing is required, as the intern will be tasked with producing written materials.
  • Demonstrable organizational, communication, reporting, and team-working skills are necessary for effective collaboration within the department.
  • The ability to work with individuals from different nationalities, religions, and cultural backgrounds is crucial, reflecting the diverse environment of the OSCE.

It is important to note that the OSCE does not provide remuneration or cover expenses incurred during the internship. However, some compensation towards living costs may be available for interns who do not reside in the place of assignment, subject to the availability of funds. The selected intern may also participate in a group health insurance scheme at their own expense, while the OSCE will cover life and accident/disability insurance.
