Job Overview:
The Protection Monitoring Assistant will be an integral part of the mobile protection monitoring team based in Warsaw, Poland. This role involves field-based work, primarily covering the Mazovian region and potentially other neighboring voivodships. Under the supervision of the protection monitoring project manager and in collaboration with the protection officer, the assistant will engage directly with communities to identify protection risks and human rights violations affecting community members, particularly those related to child protection. The position requires a proactive approach to gather and document data on protection concerns, contribute to analyses of trends affecting displaced populations, and provide essential information and support to refugees and migrants regarding their rights and available services. The assistant will also be responsible for facilitating referrals for individuals at heightened risk and ensuring proper documentation of protection monitoring activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Monitoring Assistant include:
  • Engaging with communities to identify protection risks and human rights violations.
  • Gathering and documenting data on protection concerns and contributing to analyses of trends affecting displaced populations.
  • Conducting Focus Group Discussions and Key Informant Interviews to identify main protection risks.
  • Providing relevant information to refugees and migrants about their rights and available services.
  • Identifying individuals at heightened risk and facilitating appropriate actions, including referrals to specialized services.
  • Documenting results from protection monitoring activities through reports (daily, bi-weekly, periodically).
  • Ensuring proper filing of documents in accordance with data responsibility and protection policies.
  • Participating in verification exercises for adequate data collection.
  • Supporting awareness-raising sessions and information campaigns for persons of concern. 1
  • Encouraging and monitoring community-based protection networks in accommodation sites and urban areas. 1
  • Supporting the implementation of general protection activities in line with agreed objectives. 1
  • Providing translation/interpretation as necessary and performing any other duties assigned by the line manager relevant to achieving protection objectives.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Protection Monitoring Assistant position include:
  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience with persons at heightened risk, refugees, and other displaced persons.
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrating respect, patience, and politeness.
  • Proficiency in using computer and mobile devices.
  • A solid understanding of key protection concepts.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian or Russian is required, with a good command of verbal and written English being desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Polish is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree or diploma in a related field such as social work, sociology, psychology, or similar disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of protection issues faced by displaced populations and for effectively engaging with communities.

Experience:
The position requires at least 1 year of relevant work experience, particularly in roles that involve direct interaction with refugees and displaced persons. This experience should include working with individuals at heightened risk and understanding the dynamics of protection in humanitarian contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in Ukrainian or Russian is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a good command of English is desirable, while working knowledge of Polish is considered an asset. These language skills are crucial for effective communication with the target populations and for facilitating the necessary support and information dissemination.

  • The base salary range is from 7,505 to 8,280 PLN gross per month, depending on experience. The duty station is Warsaw, and the start date is as soon as possible. The Danish Refugee Council offers competitive salaries and benefits in accordance with their Terms of Employment for national staff.
