Job Overview:
The Legal Officer will play a crucial role in providing legal analysis and support to the Grants & Contract team and other departments within the Operations function. This position requires a strong understanding of legal frameworks and the ability to maintain compliance with regulations and contractual obligations. The Legal Officer will be responsible for drafting and reviewing legal documents, providing legal advice, and ensuring that the organization adheres to relevant laws and regulations. Additionally, the role involves conducting due diligence for funded partners and managing sensitive information with confidentiality. The Legal Officer will report to the Contract and Legal Coordinator and will work in a hybrid model, requiring 8 days per month in the office in Jakarta, with potential travel as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Legal Officer's duties include:
  • Grant and Subgrant Management Assistance (40%): - Conduct thorough reviews of funding awards' terms and conditions, providing legal framework analysis. - Assist in due diligence for subgrantees and subcontractors, performing risk assessments and collaborating with the Grants and Contracts Manager. - Support negotiations and communication with potential subgrantees, ensuring compliance with donor and organizational standards.
  • Legal Drafting and File Management (40%): - Draft, review, and revise legal documents to protect organizational interests and ensure compliance with regulations. - Maintain organized filing of legal documents for easy access. - Assist in legal correspondence and negotiations under supervision. - Develop templates for legal documents as needed.
  • Legal Advisory (20%): - Provide legal advisory support by conducting reviews and preparing legal analyses. - Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance with legal frameworks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in law and have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a corporate legal officer, preferably in a non-profit or international development context. They should have experience in drafting, reviewing, and managing legal documents, as well as a good understanding of corporate and civil law, including Yayasan law. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate legal concepts to non-legal audiences are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate integrity, discretion, and a commitment to confidentiality.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in law is required for this position. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized legal training may be preferred, particularly those with a focus on corporate law or non-profit legal issues.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of experience as a corporate legal officer, with a focus on non-litigation roles. Experience in non-profit organizations, particularly in operations, is advantageous. Familiarity with grant management and legal compliance in a non-profit context is also beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory, both in verbal and written communication. Candidates should be able to effectively communicate legal concepts and findings to individuals without a legal background. Additional language skills may be considered a plus.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position with a fixed-term employment agreement for 6 months, with the possibility of extension up to December 31, 2027, depending on performance, project needs, and budget availability. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position.
