Job Overview:
The UN Intern - Economist and Development Coordination Support position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the UN's mission in Indonesia. The intern will work closely with the Economist and Programme team to support various activities related to the implementation and monitoring of the Cooperation Framework and broader UN development priorities. This role involves engaging in research, stakeholder coordination, reporting, and communication activities that are essential for the UN's engagement with various stakeholders including government counterparts, UN agencies, private sector entities, development partners, academia, and civil society. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the UN's efforts to advance the SDGs and ensure effective collaboration among partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a wide range of duties that include:
  • Research & Analytical Support: Conducting background research on socio-economic trends, SDG progress, and national development priorities. Reviewing policy documents and development reports relevant to the Cooperation Framework. Preparing background notes, summaries, presentations, and briefing materials for meetings and consultations. Conducting stakeholder mapping and gathering information related to UN coordination and development priorities. Compiling and organizing information for SDG monitoring and reporting processes.
  • Coordination & Reporting Support: Assisting in coordination with UN agencies and stakeholders regarding Cooperation Framework implementation and SDG-related activities. Organizing and documenting meetings, workshops, and consultations. Preparing meeting summaries, minutes, action trackers, and follow-up notes. Tracking coordination processes and reporting timelines. Maintaining contact lists and knowledge management materials.
  • Communications & Presentation Support: Preparing presentations and communication products related to UN development priorities. Drafting summaries and outreach materials for various audiences. Creating accessible materials for meetings and advocacy activities. Supporting visibility and outreach efforts related to Cooperation Framework priorities.
  • Events & Administrative Support: Coordinating logistics for meetings and events organized by the RCO. Attending meetings and supporting documentation processes. Assisting with other coordination and administrative tasks as needed. The internship is full-time and unpaid, requiring interns to work five days a week (35 hours) under supervision.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Experience in preparing written materials such as meeting summaries, briefing notes, and presentations related to development or socio-economic issues is desirable. Additionally, experience in supporting coordination activities, academic events, and stakeholder engagement is advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong educational background relevant to the internship. This includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or a Master’s or equivalent, or having completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s Programme. The educational focus should ideally align with the areas of economics, development studies, international relations, or related fields that are pertinent to the UN's work in Indonesia.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should ideally have some experience that demonstrates their ability to engage in research, coordination, and communication activities. This could include involvement in academic projects, internships, or volunteer work that relates to development, international relations, or socio-economic issues. Experience in supporting events or initiatives that require stakeholder engagement is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Indonesian is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is considered an advantage. The official languages of the United Nations Secretariat include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, and proficiency in any of these languages would enhance the candidate's profile.
