Job Overview:
The Energy System Modeler position is a hybrid role based in Jakarta, Indonesia, requiring 8 days per month in the office. The role is integral to WRI Indonesia's Energy and Sustainable Business (ESB) Portfolio, which aims to advance reliable, clean energy while reducing carbon emissions and supporting economic development. The Energy Modeler will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing WRI Indonesia's energy system modeling platform, focusing on two workflows: Regional Decarbonization and Industrial Decarbonization. This includes assessing the implications of transport electrification on electricity demand and planning, as well as developing integrated modeling frameworks to inform strategic investment and policy decisions. The position requires a strong analytical capability to connect sectoral demand signals with clean energy supply opportunities, ultimately contributing to Indonesia's net-zero targets by 2050 for industry and 2060 for the broader economy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Energy System Modeler will engage in a variety of tasks, primarily focusing on knowledge and research work (70% of the role). This includes developing and continuously improving the energy system modeling platform, designing modeling methodologies, conducting scenario analyses, and preparing technical reports and publications. The role also involves project management (20%), where the modeler will work closely with project leads to translate research objectives into modeling approaches and ensure timely delivery of analytical outputs. Additionally, stakeholder engagement (10%) is crucial, as the modeler will provide technical support during meetings and present findings to diverse audiences. The position requires maintaining comprehensive technical documentation and ensuring that modeling workflows remain reproducible and transferable.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or Applied Mathematics, with a Master's degree preferred. A minimum of five years of professional experience in energy system modeling, electricity planning, or renewable energy analysis is required. The ideal candidate should have a robust understanding of electricity systems, renewable energy integration, and quantitative energy analysis, along with the ability to independently develop modeling methodologies and troubleshoot technical issues. Familiarity with data organization tools like Excel and experience with energy modeling platforms and GIS tools are also essential.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, Electric Power Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or other related disciplines. A Master's degree is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding in the relevant fields.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of professional experience in areas related to energy system modeling, electricity planning, transport electrification, or renewable energy analysis. This experience should demonstrate a robust understanding of the complexities involved in energy systems and the ability to conduct quantitative analyses effectively.

Languages:
Proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English is mandatory, with good written and verbal communication skills required in both languages. This bilingual capability is essential for effectively communicating technical concepts and findings to diverse audiences, including stakeholders and team members.

Additional Notes:
This position is a locally engaged role, and Indonesian nationals are encouraged to apply. The assignment is expected to commence as soon as possible, with an initial contract period lasting until 28 February 2027, subject to performance evaluation and project needs. The compensation is based on a daily rate for a maximum of 18 working days per month. The role includes travel insurance for domestic and international travel as assigned by WRI Indonesia. The organization promotes a hybrid working model with flexible working hours, and candidates must have existing work authorization in Indonesia at the time of application.
