Job Overview: The Movement Control Assistant position is integral to the operations of the United Nations Support Office in Haiti. This role involves receiving and supporting cargo movement requests for both air and ground transportation, assisting in the boarding and deplaning of passengers and crew, and handling cargo as necessary. The assistant will be responsible for maintaining attendance records, MOPs/Waivers, and other essential documentation. The position serves as the focal point at the Aeropuerto Internacional de Las Americas (AILA) in Santo Domingo and collaborates closely with the MovCon and Logistics team in Port-au-Prince. The Movement Control Assistant will report to the Associate Administrative Officer or their delegate, ensuring that all operations adhere to established safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Movement Control Assistant will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the development of passenger and cargo load plans; coordinating daily operations of administrative and loading staff; ensuring compliance with international Dangerous Goods Regulations; liaising with port and local authorities regarding travel, immigration, and customs issues; planning and executing military and police contingent movements; preparing movement orders and collecting movement information; registering cargo movement requests; completing cargo and passenger manifests; arranging customs clearance; informing consignees about item deliveries; assisting with passenger check-in processes; ensuring airfield and terminal security; tracking missing cargo and baggage; maintaining unit files; and providing general support to the travel unit as required. The assistant will also perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid national driving license is also required. The position demands a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in movement control or airport operations, passenger management, customer services, transport logistics, or administration. Experience in a United Nations common system field or similar international organization is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams, is also preferred.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or its equivalent. This foundational education is essential for understanding the operational and administrative tasks associated with the role.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least five years of relevant experience in movement control, airport operations, or related fields. This experience should demonstrate a progressive responsibility in managing logistics, passenger services, or administrative functions. Familiarity with the United Nations system or similar international organizations is considered an asset, as it indicates an understanding of the unique operational environment in which the UN operates.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory, with a required level of UN Level II for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Knowledge of French or Creole Haiti is desirable, with a minimum proficiency of UN Level I for Creole Haiti.
