Job Overview:
The National Lead Livestock Specialist will play a crucial role in providing technical leadership and support for livestock-related activities across various projects in Sudan. This position is vital for enhancing livestock productivity and resilience among pastoral and agro-pastoral communities, which are significantly impacted by challenges such as conflict, climate variability, and limited access to animal health services. The specialist will ensure that interventions are coherent, effective, and aligned with FAO's technical standards and donor requirements. The role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including government authorities, implementing partners, and community organizations, to strengthen livestock production systems and improve livelihoods.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: providing technical leadership in the design and implementation of livestock interventions; conducting needs assessments and vulnerability analyses; ensuring technical quality assurance during beneficiary selection and distribution of livestock; coordinating with veterinary authorities and community health workers; promoting resilient and conflict-sensitive livestock interventions; developing capacity-building activities for partners and community members; contributing to the strengthening of livestock value chains; and preparing technical reports and documentation. The specialist will also represent FAO in technical meetings and discussions with stakeholders, ensuring that livestock interventions are sustainable and effective in addressing the needs of affected populations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Livestock Production, Animal Health, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in livestock production, animal health, or related areas is required. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong understanding of livestock development and the challenges faced by pastoral and agro-pastoral systems in Sudan.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or Natural Resource Management is essential for this position. The educational qualifications must be obtained from an institution recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in livestock production, animal health, or related fields. Candidates should have experience in designing and implementing livestock interventions, as well as working with government institutions and NGOs in similar contexts. Experience in conflict-affected or climate-vulnerable areas is considered an asset.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, with proficiency at level C in both languages being required. This bilingual capability is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and partners in the region.
