Job Overview:
The Political intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Affairs Intern will support the Peacebuilding Support Office, specifically the Peacebuilding Impact Hub. This role is designed to provide valuable experience in the field of political affairs and peacebuilding. The intern will engage in various tasks that contribute to the overall mission of the UN, including stakeholder coordination, policy development, and outreach activities. The internship is expected to last between 2 to 6 months, with a flexible start date around September 21, 202

• The intern will work full-time, dedicating 35 hours per week, and will be based at the UN premises in New York, USA. The position may also allow for part-time or remote work arrangements depending on the candidate's needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: supporting stakeholder coordination by liaising with national and international counterparts; assisting project leads in preparing meeting briefs and related materials; monitoring actions taken by intergovernmental groups and UN entities related to peacebuilding efforts; supporting policy development and assessments of issues and trends; preparing written outputs and data-driven analysis, including background papers and reports; supporting outreach activities and conducting training workshops; and performing other duties as required. This role is integral to the UN's efforts in peacebuilding and will provide the intern with hands-on experience in international relations and diplomacy.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following conditions: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level); or have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within one year of graduation. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, including advanced knowledge of Excel. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are essential. Candidates should also possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree relevant to the internship. This includes being a student in the final year of a Bachelor's program or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or graduation will be required during the application process. The educational background should align closely with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in fields related to political science, international relations, or peace studies.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that relates to the duties of the position. This could include internships, volunteer work, or projects that demonstrate a commitment to international affairs or peacebuilding.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages is highly valued in the UN environment.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents will need to obtain a G-4 visa to undertake the internship. The UN requires all applicants to be authorized to work in the country where the internship will be conducted. Interns must provide proof of visa and/or work authorization before starting the internship. Additionally, applicants who have previously served as interns in the UN Common Systems for a total of six months or more are not eligible for this internship.
