Job Overview:
The Political Affairs Officer (Conflict-related Sexual Violence) is a pivotal role within the conflict-related sexual violence team in the Policy and Best Practices Service of the Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). This position involves gathering, selecting, and analyzing information related to conflict-related sexual violence from various sources, including media communications. The officer will maintain an up-to-date understanding of political issues and their implications for the implementation of security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council Resolutions addressing conflict-related sexual violence. The role requires monitoring political developments at national and regional levels, providing technical support for training and guidance on DPO's mandates, and preparing written outputs such as reports and analyses. The officer will also engage with UN partners and other organizations to coordinate efforts and monitor actions related to conflict-related sexual violence.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

• Gathering and analyzing information on conflict-related sexual violence from various sources.
• Keeping abreast of political developments and their impact on the implementation of relevant Security Council Resolutions.
• Providing advice to field missions on the implications of political developments.
• Supporting the development and delivery of training on conflict-related sexual violence mandates.
• Preparing written outputs, including background papers and reports.
• Maintaining contacts with UN partners and other organizations on policy matters.
• Monitoring actions taken by intergovernmental groups and NGOs related to conflict-related sexual violence.
• Participating in evaluations and technical support missions.
• Performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of DPO's conflict-related sexual violence mandate and its implementation in peacekeeping operations. Knowledge of legal frameworks and ethical considerations regarding sexual violence is essential. The ability to analyze political, ethnic, and social issues impacting the implementation of the mandate is crucial. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective planning and organizing skills. They must show a commitment to gender perspectives and the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution, or a related area is required. At least two years of experience leading or coordinating activities to prevent and respond to conflict-related sexual violence is essential. Field experience with UN peacekeeping or political missions is desirable, as is experience in developing training and guidance on conflict-related sexual violence. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience working at the international level in areas related to women, peace, and security or conflict-related sexual violence.

Languages:
English is required at UN Level III proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is desirable at UN Level II proficiency in the same areas.
