Job Overview:
The position of Scheduling and Coordination Engineer is situated within the Engineering Department (EN) at CERN, specifically in the Accelerator Coordination and Engineering (EN-ACE) group. This role is crucial for planning and coordinating a wide range of technologies across CERN’s current and future accelerator complex. The engineer will work closely with domain experts to develop practical solutions for the installation and maintenance of complex equipment, thereby supporting the full lifecycle of CERN’s infrastructure and future projects. The role involves managing the scheduling of programmed stops, ensuring operational safety coordination, and maintaining the integrity of the accelerator facilities. The engineer will also be responsible for producing baseline schedules, preparing supporting documentation, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Scheduling and Coordination Engineer will be tasked with coordinating all installation and maintenance activities for existing or future accelerators. Key responsibilities include producing baseline schedules that adhere to safety rules and quality standards, preparing all necessary documentation, and facilitating communication between stakeholders. The engineer will identify and resolve conflicting co-activity issues, manage the impact of operational issues on the schedule to minimize delays, and ensure that all safety concerns related to installation works are addressed. Additionally, the engineer will follow up on activities' progress, report deviations, and anticipate co-activity issues to maintain project timelines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field. A Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an additional asset. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in project management for large-scale technical projects, with a proven track record in scheduling and coordinating activities linked to complex projects. Experience in engaging stakeholders and achieving consensus around objectives is essential, as is familiarity with multiple project planning tools and communication between them.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of the engineering systems involved in CERN's operations and for effectively managing the technical aspects of the projects.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in project management, particularly for large-scale technical projects. Proven experience in scheduling and coordinating activities, managing co-activities, and addressing safety aspects is essential. The role requires extensive experience with project planning tools and communication between them, as well as familiarity with project scheduling and management tools such as MS Project, Oracle Primavera, MS PowerBI, and programming languages like VBA and Python.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate a commitment to learning French, which is considered beneficial for effective communication within the organization.

Additional Notes:
This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The job requires a commitment of 40 hours per week and offers hybrid working flexibility. The role may involve interventions in underground installations and requires a valid driving license.
