Job Overview: The English Editorial Coordinator is a pivotal role within MSF Canada’s Communications Department, reporting directly to the Editorial Manager. This position involves close collaboration with the editor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">English Editor, as well as with the communications, digital, and fundraising teams. The primary function of the English Editorial Coordinator is to enhance awareness of MSF’s medical humanitarian efforts across Canada. The coordinator will ensure that all written English content adheres to MSF's style guidelines and voice, while also engaging in the editorial process for both print and digital content. The role requires a proactive approach to writing, editing, and reviewing content, with a strong emphasis on digital best practices such as SEO and accessibility. The English Editorial Coordinator will also be responsible for creating compelling marketing copy for various campaigns and ensuring that all communications reflect the most current information about MSF’s international projects and operational updates.
Duties and Responsibilities: The English Editorial Coordinator will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: reviewing English-language materials produced by MSF Canada and other MSF offices to ensure accuracy and adherence to brand guidelines; proposing and creating English marketing copy for campaigns; staying informed about MSF's international projects; supporting the English Editor in delivering English copy editing for various departments; collaborating with the Digital Creative Officer to ensure digital content is compelling and accurate; providing in-house English copy-editing support to other departments; and ensuring all materials produced are consistent with MSF branding guidelines and values. The coordinator will also be tasked with reviewing digital materials to ensure they meet best practices for SEO and accessibility, and will assist in the editorial process for MSF Canada’s flagship magazine and annual Impact report as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in English proofreading, copy editing, and writing, with experience in communications, marketing, publishing, journalism, or agency environments. A demonstrated understanding of audience-centered writing and digital engagement principles is essential. The ideal candidate will have experience in editing and optimizing content for digital channels, as well as familiarity with web publishing and content management systems. Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to apply inclusive language and accessibility principles are critical. The candidate should also have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to produce integrated communications products and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Educational Background: A strong command of the English language, both spoken and written, is mandatory. A working knowledge of French, spoken and written, is highly desirable. Educational qualifications should reflect a background in communications, journalism, or a related field, with relevant certifications being an asset.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have substantial experience in English proofreading, copy editing, and writing. Experience in communications, marketing, publishing, or journalism is essential, along with a proven track record of writing or adapting marketing, fundraising, or advocacy copy. Familiarity with digital content best practices and experience in print production and editorial workflows are also important.
Languages: Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of French is highly desirable, as it will enhance communication within the organization and with diverse audiences.
Additional Notes: This is a permanent, full-time position based in Toronto, Canada, with a hybrid work model requiring a minimum of 40% presence in the office per week. The salary for this position is set at $64,251 in the first year, which is non-negotiable. The working hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with core hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and occasional evenings or weekends may be required. MSF Canada offers a comprehensive benefits package, including group insurance, a 5% RRSP contribution, four weeks of vacation annually, and access to professional development resources. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, as MSF Canada cannot support or relocate candidates from outside the country.
