Job Overview: The Career Manager position is a vital role within the International HR Unit of MSF Canada, focusing on the career development of International Mobile Staff (IMS). This role involves providing career development counseling, training options, and support to a pool of 75 to 100 active professionals who hold various international operational positions. The Career Manager will work closely with other HR professionals to align career opportunities with the strategic goals of MSF Canada and the needs of MSF Operational Entities. The position requires a partner-oriented approach, emphasizing the importance of individual growth and professional development within the organization. The Career Manager will also play a key role in ensuring compliance with HR policies and promoting a healthy working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Career Manager will be responsible for planning, supporting, and advising on the professional development of IMS. This includes asserting the organization's Duty of Care towards IMS, building and maintaining a healthy HR pyramid, and providing guidance to various departments involved in the IMS employee lifecycle. The Career Manager will participate in the induction of newly recruited IMS, maintain HR tools and policies, analyze external work experiences, ensure compliance with contracts, and promote connectiveness to the social mission among employees. Additionally, the Career Manager will contribute to reporting and planning within the International HR department and foster a healthy working environment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess talent management and development skills, with a keen eye for identifying high-potential talents. They should understand the motivations and ambitions of IMS in their careers and have the ability to build trust and relationships. Emotional intelligence is crucial, as the Career Manager will need to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. A comprehensive understanding of MSF's structure, culture, and values is essential, along with the ability to explain these concepts clearly to others. Candidates should also be familiar with the interactions between MSF entities and the HR challenges faced by the organization.
Educational Background: A university degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or a related field is required. Relevant work experience in HR or a similar role will also be considered. Fluency in both French and English is mandatory, as effective communication in both languages is essential for this position.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of international experience with MSF or a similar international non-governmental organization (INGO), ideally in coordination roles. Prior experience in talent management, particularly in an international setting or with diverse teams, is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and empathize with others is also important, along with proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office applications.
Languages: Fluency in French and English is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, depending on the needs of the organization and the specific roles of the IMS.
Additional Notes: The position operates on a hybrid model, requiring a minimum of 40% presence in the MSF Canada office per week. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with core hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required. The office environment is open-concept with modern workspace features.
