Job Overview: The Direct Response and Community Giving Manager is a pivotal role within MSF Canada’s Fundraising Department, responsible for managing offline direct response channels, including direct mail, face-to-face fundraising, and tele-fundraising. This position oversees third-party events and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives, contributing to the Mass Marketing unit's overall strategy. The manager will be tasked with raising approximately $9 million annually and will play a crucial role in the acquisition, conversion, reactivation, and stewardship of monthly donors, which is a significant revenue stream for MSF Canada. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Manager of Fundraising and Development to align fundraising strategies with the organization’s broader goals and will lead a team to execute various fundraising activities effectively. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, creativity, and strong leadership skills to drive fundraising success and ensure that campaigns meet their objectives while adhering to MSF’s brand guidelines and best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Direct Response and Community Giving Manager will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including: managing and implementing key strategies for direct mail, face-to-face, and tele-fundraising campaigns; overseeing the community giving portfolio, which includes third-party events and peer-to-peer fundraising; leading a team of three direct reports to achieve their goals while fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment; providing creative guidance and project management to ensure timely delivery of campaigns; managing relationships with fundraising suppliers and agencies to meet strategic objectives; collaborating with the Mass Marketing Unit and Fundraising team to integrate campaigns; ensuring adherence to MSF Canada’s brand guidelines; analyzing campaign performance to meet revenue objectives; ensuring excellent donor experience in donation processing; and staying updated on fundraising trends and best practices to innovate and improve fundraising efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess advanced knowledge of direct response fundraising strategies, including direct mail, face-to-face canvassing, telemarketing, and community giving. They should have strong project management skills, the ability to oversee complex budgets, and experience managing fundraising agency partnerships. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential, along with a keen attention to detail. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience in people management roles, particularly with cross-functional teams, and a proven ability to develop team members effectively. Familiarity with fundraising best practices and the ability to analyze campaign performance metrics are also critical for success in this role.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, which may include education or training in fundraising, direct marketing, or a related field. Alternatively, a combination of relevant experience and training may also be acceptable. Proficiency in English, particularly in copy-editing, is mandatory, while proficiency in French is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the bilingual context of Canada.
Experience: The position requires professional experience in offline direct response fundraising, including direct mail, face-to-face canvassing, tele-fundraising, and community giving. Additional Notes: This position is a permanent, full-time role with an activity rate of 100% (37.5 hours per week). The work is conducted in a hybrid model, requiring a minimum of 40% presence in the MSF Canada office each week. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with core hours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and occasional evenings or weekends may be required. The position is located in Toronto, and candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada, as MSF Canada cannot support or relocate candidates from outside the country. The salary for this position is set at Level 16, step 1 on the MSF Canada Salary Grid, amounting to $87,850, which is non-negotiable.
