Job Overview: The People and Culture Administrator plays a crucial role in supporting the HR functions within Save the Children Canada. Reporting to the Senior Manager of People & Culture, this position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of various HR processes, systems, and programs. The administrator will ensure that key HR functions such as onboarding, compensation and benefits, performance management, and employee relations are effectively managed. This role is integral to enhancing the employee experience and operational efficiency within the organization. The administrator will collaborate with various teams to ensure that HR systems are functioning optimally and that employees have the necessary support and resources to thrive in their roles. The position is designed to contribute to the overall mission of Save the Children by fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities: The People and Culture Administrator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: administering and troubleshooting HR systems and tools such as payroll and performance management; maintaining accurate employee data in the HR system; coordinating recruitment administration and supporting hiring managers; ensuring employees are knowledgeable about HR systems; managing payroll inputs and benefit changes; monitoring leave-related payments for accuracy; responding to employee inquiries; managing the student and internship program; coordinating onboarding for new hires; recommending improvements to onboarding practices; maintaining employee records; assisting in implementing HR policies; supporting the annual performance management cycle; producing regular metrics reports; and leading the Feel Good Task Force. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to enhancing the overall employee experience.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in HR or related fields is required, with a preference for candidates who have experience in International Development, NGOs, or the not-for-profit sector. Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Employment Standards Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act is essential. Candidates should have proven experience in interpreting employment law and handling compliance matters. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are necessary to build effective relationships across diverse audiences. Proficiency in project management and MS Office tools is also required, along with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a post-secondary education in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Equivalent experience in a relevant role may also be considered. Continuous professional development and training in HR practices and legislation are encouraged to ensure that the administrator remains knowledgeable about current trends and best practices in the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in human resources or a related field. Experience within the International Development sector, NGOs, or not-for-profit organizations is preferred, as it provides valuable context for the role's responsibilities. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully managing HR functions and contributing to organizational goals.
Languages: While English is the primary language required for this position, proficiency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is considered an asset. This multilingual capability can enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and contribute to a more inclusive workplace.
Additional Notes: This position is an 18-month contract to cover maternity leave. The salary range for the People and Culture Administrator is between $55,581.56 and $71,985.83 CAD, depending on skills and experience. Employees will receive a comprehensive benefits package after three months of employment, including coordinated benefits for partners, a hybrid workplace model, and flexible work hours.
