Job Overview:
The UNEP FI Facilitator for the Banking and Climate Teams will play a crucial role in designing and implementing processes that foster strategic decision-making and team cohesion during retreats. The facilitator will be responsible for creating an agenda that aligns with the objectives of the retreats, which include enhancing teamwork, improving collaboration between teams, and ensuring that the principles of sustainable finance are upheld. The facilitator's work will directly contribute to the strategic planning and coordination of UNEP FI's initiatives, ensuring that the organization's core values, such as human rights, gender equality, and inclusivity, are integrated into all activities. This position requires a proactive approach to facilitate discussions, document outcomes, and support the overall mission of UNEP FI in promoting sustainable finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Facilitating the Banking Team retreat, which involves conducting preparation calls, developing a facilitation plan for online sessions, drafting and refining the retreat agenda, and delivering in-person facilitation. The consultant will also document the outcomes of the retreat in a comprehensive report.
  • Facilitating the Climate Team retreat, which includes similar preparation and facilitation tasks as the Banking Team retreat, ensuring that all communications reflect UNEP's core values.
  • Collaborating with team leads and assistants to ensure smooth logistics and effective communication throughout the retreat process.
  • Supporting the implementation of UNEP FI’s 2026–2029 Social Action Plan by incorporating relevant measures into the retreat activities.
  • Ensuring that all outputs from the retreats align with UNEP's mission and contribute to the overall goals of sustainable development and environmental protection.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree or equivalent in finance, environmental studies, international relations, business administration, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree may be accepted in lieu of a master’s degree if the candidate has at least 7 years of relevant experience. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of five years of work experience in business development, facilitation, or strategy, with a strong preference for experience in the environment or finance sectors, particularly within international organizations. Proven knowledge in strategic planning, meeting design, and team building is essential, along with excellent communication skills.

Educational Background:
A master’s degree in a relevant field such as finance, environmental studies, international relations, or business administration is required. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree may be considered if accompanied by significant relevant experience. The educational background should reflect a strong understanding of the principles of sustainable finance and environmental governance.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant work experience, particularly in roles that involve business development, facilitation, or strategic planning. Experience in the environmental or finance sectors, especially within international organizations, is highly advantageous. The ability to manage multiple projects and activities in an organized manner is crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory as it is the working language of UNEP FI. Knowledge of other United Nations languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse international environment.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last for a duration of 2 months. The consultant will report to the Head of UNEP FI and work closely with the Banking Team Lead and Climate Team Lead. This role is integral to the success of UNEP FI's initiatives and requires a commitment to the organization's core values.
