Job Overview:
The Safety Support Specialist position at CERN is designed for a motivated and proactive individual who will play a crucial role in the coordination and execution of safety activities during a significant infrastructure and upgrade program. This role involves working closely with project managers, safety officers, and technical experts to ensure the safe implementation of various activities, including upgrades, maintenance, and commissioning across a wide range of accelerator facilities. The position has two primary focus areas: project management and project safety, which are essential for enabling future scientific operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the coordination of schedules, resources, documentation, and stakeholder communications, as well as following up on safety-related activities to ensure alignment among technical, operational, and safety stakeholders. The role also includes assisting with the planning, implementation, and monitoring of safety measures, preparing and updating safety documentation, and participating in project meetings and technical reviews.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Safety Support Specialist include supporting the coordination of schedules, resources, documentation, and stakeholder communications. The specialist will follow up on safety-related activities, ensuring alignment between technical, operational, and safety stakeholders. They will assist with the planning, implementation, and monitoring of safety measures, prepare, review, and update safety documentation, including contributions to the Safety File for new and existing facilities. The specialist will track project actions, maintain records, and support progress reporting and follow-up activities. Participation in project meetings, site visits, and technical reviews is also required. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to safety reviews and risk assessments related to various hazards, support operation readiness activities, and assist with on-site follow-up and contractor coordination as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in relevant fields such as Electrical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or Chemical Engineering. The highest educational qualification required is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Applicants who have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract are not eligible, and those without a university degree or with a PhD are also not eligible. A basic understanding of safety principles and standards, along with strong communication skills and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams, is essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the technical and safety documentation preparation, worksite risk assessment, and management activities that the role entails.

Experience:
The position requires initial experience, which can be gained through internships, research projects, or academic work. Candidates should have experience in project execution and coordination activities, preparation of technical and safety documentation, worksite risk assessment and management, and operational readiness activities. Experience working in complex technical environments and safety-critical facilities is also beneficial.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with a strong emphasis on both spoken and written communication skills. Candidates should also have proficiency in French, with a commitment to learning the other language if necessary. Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the job is fully onsite. The target start date for this position is October 1, 202
