The Development Operations Coordination Office (DCO) oversees the resident coordinator system and ensures that it is optimally configured to support the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda. Job Overview:
The UN Driver position is located in the Resident Coordinator's Office in Aden, Yemen. The incumbent will be responsible for safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo. This includes making deliveries of parcels and documents between the office and various institutions such as ministries and embassies. The driver will also be tasked with making minor purchases, collecting goods from customs, and facilitating immigration and customs formalities for official personnel at the airport. The role requires effective interaction with officials and visitors, as well as the maintenance of assigned vehicles, including performing minor repairs and ensuring cleanliness and insurance. Additionally, the driver will assist in data collection and analysis, preparation of presentations and reports, and updating information materials. The position demands a high level of professionalism, planning, and client orientation, ensuring that the needs of clients are met efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Driver include:
  • Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo.
  • Making deliveries of parcels, documents, and other items between the office and various institutions.
  • Making minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers as requested.
  • Collecting goods from customs while adhering to regulations.
  • Meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating necessary formalities.
  • Dealing effectively with officials and visitors.
  • Performing day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, and arranging for repairs as needed.
  • Reporting any damage or loss of vehicle tools.
  • Logging fuel consumption and maintenance records. 1
  • Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents. 1
  • Applying good judgment in assignments. 1
  • Assisting with data collection and analysis, and preparing presentations and reports. 1

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the UN Driver position include:
  • Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid National Driver License is mandatory.
  • First aid training is desirable.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with the area and current road conditions.
  • Professional competence and mastery of subject matter, with a commitment to gender equality in the workplace.
  • Ability to develop clear goals and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong client orientation skills, with the ability to establish productive partnerships with clients and anticipate their needs.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position is the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and duties associated with the role of a driver in a professional environment.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of continuous driving experience with a safe driving record. Candidates should have experience driving a variety of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience working with senior diplomatic officials is desirable, as is experience with the United Nations or similar international organizations. Additionally, one year or more of experience in data analytics or a related area is considered advantageous.

Languages:
For this job opening, proficiency in English and Arabic is required. According to the UN Language Framework, candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency (UN Level II) in reading, writing, listening, and speaking for both languages. Knowledge of French is also beneficial but not mandatory.
