Job Overview: The Communications Consultant will play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of the Sciences Sector (SCS) Communication strategy. This position involves working closely with various programs, including Bioethics, Social Transformations, Inclusion, Rights, Intercultural Dialogue, and Youth Coordination. The consultant will be responsible for coordinating events, developing communication materials, and enhancing the visibility of SCS initiatives. The role requires proficiency in both English and French, as the consultant will be expected to draft and prepare communication materials in both languages, ensuring alignment with UNESCO's communication guidelines. The consultant will also maintain the calendar of events for the SCS Sector and support the planning and delivery of high-level events, ensuring effective communication and stakeholder engagement throughout the process.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties include coordinating the Sector’s events and priorities, supporting the planning and implementation of communication for various initiatives, and providing communication support to the Executive Officer. The consultant will be responsible for maintaining and updating the SCS calendar of events, developing digital communication strategies, drafting online materials, and coordinating the editing and publication of content. Additionally, the consultant will ensure the quality control of briefing materials for senior officials, support event planning and delivery, and carry out any other tasks as required by the Executive Officer to facilitate effective communication and program activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Cultural or Social Sciences, or other relevant fields. A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional work experience in communications, print media, digital and social media, or public relations is required. Candidates should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, accuracy in document production, and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team. Familiarity with communication tools and approaches for development is essential, along with solid computer literacy and the ability to work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
