Job Overview: The intern will provide essential coordination support to the Office of the Deputy director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director (DEDO) at UN Women. This role involves working closely with the Deputy Executive Director and the Special Assistant to support five priority workstreams, including the Young Women and Girls Strategy, UN Women's response in the Middle East, and coordination efforts related to the Africa strategy and the Inter Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE). The intern will be responsible for consolidating and tracking information, maintaining communication with various teams, and ensuring that the Deputy Executive Director's Office is well-informed and organized in its operations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in inter-agency coordination and executive office operations within a prominent international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Young Women and Girls Strategy: Assist in the review and finalization of the strategy, compile comments from various divisions, and draft a communications plan. Maintain a tracker of partner engagement related to the strategy.
UN Women Middle East Response: Support internal coordination efforts, maintain a tracker of action points and decisions, and compile situation updates for the Deputy Executive Director's Office.
IANWGE Strategic Leadership Group: Track commitments and action points from meetings, assist in finalizing Terms of Reference, and prepare for future engagements.
Africa Strategy Coordination: Maintain a coordination tracker for engagements with the African Union, track key processes and decision points relevant to gender equality, and summarize outstanding actions across all workstreams. Key deliverables include consolidated comments matrices, updated trackers, finalized Terms of Reference, and a handover note summarizing actions and statuses.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong drafting and coordination skills, the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines, and a sound understanding of multilateral processes and UN intergovernmental mechanisms. They should demonstrate organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight timelines. Discretion in handling sensitive correspondence is also essential.
Educational Background: Applicants should have university studies in disciplines such as international relations, political science, gender studies, public policy, or other relevant fields. They must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate program, be in the final year of a bachelor's degree, have graduated within the last two years, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program that includes the internship as part of its requirements.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in coordination, drafting, and working within international or intergovernmental contexts. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with UN processes and gender equality issues is advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. A working knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in diverse international contexts.
