Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNHCR involves providing safe and reliable transportation services to support the implementation of UNHCR operations in Sudan. The incumbent will be directly supervised by the Administrative Officer, Associate, or Assistant, and will be responsible for transporting UNHCR personnel and authorized passengers. The role requires adherence to UNHCR vehicle management procedures, road safety standards, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols. The driver will conduct routine vehicle inspections, ensure cleanliness and roadworthiness, maintain accurate vehicle logs, and report any mechanical defects or operational issues promptly. This position also entails regular interaction with UNHCR staff, partners, government authorities, and other stakeholders, necessitating professionalism, discretion, and effective communication. The driver will support official movements, airport transfers, field missions, and other operational requirements as assigned, contributing to the continuity and effectiveness of UNHCR operations and enabling staff to deliver protection and assistance activities in support of UNHCR’s mandate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Driver include: driving UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents and other items; meeting official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required; performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., and ensuring that the vehicles are roadworthy and maintained to established security standards; performing minor repairs, arranging for other repairs, and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean; logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, and greasing; ensuring that instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor and security focal point are strictly followed; ensuring valid documentation for passengers, items, or cargo in the vehicle; supporting the identification and management of risks and seeking to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility; and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Driver position include a valid driving license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. The candidate must have at least 2 years of relevant experience and should have completed primary education or possess a high school diploma or higher. Essential functional skills include basic vehicle mechanical skills and a strong understanding of driving rules and regulations. The candidate should demonstrate defensive driving skills and a commitment to road safety, as well as sound knowledge of vehicle maintenance, including routine inspections and timely reporting of defects. Basic administrative and record-keeping skills are also necessary, along with effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with UNHCR personnel, partners, and external stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Driver position includes the completion of primary education or a high school diploma or higher. While specific fields of education are not applicable, the candidate must possess a valid driving license and demonstrate knowledge of driving rules and regulations.

Experience:
The level of experience needed for the Driver position is a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role. Candidates should have proven experience as a professional driver in an international organization, UN agency, government institution, or similar professional environment. Experience in vehicle maintenance and a strong commitment to road safety are essential.

Languages:
For the Driver position, knowledge of English and the UN working language of the duty station (if not English) is mandatory. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is required. Familiarity with local languages is also beneficial, particularly for effective communication with local stakeholders.
