Job Overview: The consultancy role is centered around the Global Fleet Optimization Initiative, which aims to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of Light Passenger Vehicle (LPV) fleet management across United Nations field missions. The consultant will be responsible for implementing strategies that align LPV holdings with operational requirements, optimize fleet utilization, and improve governance through data-driven decision-making. The position requires a thorough understanding of fleet management principles and the ability to analyze and report on fleet performance metrics. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that the fleet management practices are in line with the UN's operational goals and sustainability objectives. This role is crucial for ensuring that the UN's transportation resources are used effectively to support its missions worldwide.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a comprehensive review of all field missions’ Light Passenger Vehicle (LPV) holdings to ensure they align with approved fleet ceilings and operational requirements. Key responsibilities include assessing LPV utilization levels, identifying optimization opportunities, and reviewing requests for vehicle acquisition and replacement. The consultant will monitor the implementation of disposal and write-off programs, ensuring compliance with established targets. Additionally, the consultant will review fleet inventories and management data for accuracy, assess compliance with optimization targets, and identify opportunities for asset redeployment across missions. The role also involves supporting the expansion of vehicle pooling arrangements, monitoring the effectiveness of the Transportation Management Tool (TMT), and developing performance indicators and analytical reports to track progress under the initiative. The consultant will prepare technical assessments and liaise with Chief Transport Officers and other stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of fleet optimization recommendations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transport Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with relevant professional training and two additional years of work experience in surface transportation may be accepted. A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in fleet management, transportation management, or logistics operations is required. Experience in coordinating with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior management, is essential. Additionally, at least two years of experience in United Nations field operations or a comparable international environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with data analysis, performance reporting, and business intelligence tools related to fleet optimization is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transport Management, Engineering, or Business Administration. A first-level university degree with additional professional training and relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to the advanced degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of fleet management and logistics operations within the context of the United Nations.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in fleet management, transportation management, or logistics operations. This experience should include coordinating with various stakeholders and reporting to senior management. Additionally, at least two years of experience in a United Nations field operation or a similar international operational environment is highly desirable. Experience with data analysis and performance reporting, particularly in relation to fleet optimization and asset management, is also preferred. Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
