Job Posting Organization:
The job is part of the Digital Transformation Team (DTT) for UN Peacekeeping, which operates under the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The DPO provides political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations globally, maintaining contact with the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council and various stakeholders. The DTT is focused on implementing the Strategy for Digital Transformation of UN Peacekeeping, aiming to enhance the safety and security of peacekeepers through innovative technology. The organization emphasizes collaboration with governmental and non-governmental entities to improve peacekeeping operations.

Job Overview:
The Programme Management Officer will play a crucial role in identifying and harnessing opportunities for innovation within UN Peacekeeping operations. This position involves developing strategies to address unique challenges in the field, establishing partnerships with various stakeholders, and implementing innovative frameworks and methodologies. The officer will design and facilitate solution-oriented events such as hackathons and bootcamps, aimed at co-developing prototype solutions to pressing peacekeeping challenges. The role also includes monitoring and evaluating assigned programs/projects, conducting research, and preparing written outputs on innovation topics. The officer will be expected to engage in outreach activities, conduct training workshops, and develop resources to support structured innovation processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Officer will be responsible for identifying innovation opportunities within UN Peacekeeping, supporting partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and designing solutioning mechanisms. Specific duties include:
  • Identifying and developing strategies for innovation in peacekeeping operations.
  • Establishing partnerships with academia, public and private sectors, and field personnel.
  • Designing and implementing hackathons, accelerators, and incubators to co-create solutions.
  • Monitoring and analyzing program/project development and implementation.
  • Conducting research and preparing various written outputs on innovation.
  • Supporting consultative meetings and outreach activities.
  • Designing and disseminating innovation resources.
  • Participating in field missions and coordinating budget-related activities.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of Digital Transformation, Innovation, and Change Management theories and concepts. They should demonstrate innovative thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct data collection and independent research. Professionalism, teamwork, and creativity are essential competencies for this role. The officer must be able to manage conflicting priorities and demonstrate a commitment to gender equality in innovation activities.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, international relations, change management, social sciences, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, strategic innovation, or a related area is required. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in digital transformation and/or innovation, with a minimum of 12 months managing innovation initiatives related to peacekeeping operations. Experience in building multi-stakeholder partnerships and integrating innovative perspectives into policies and programs is also required.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in all skills.

This position is temporarily available from November 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, with the possibility of extension.
