Job Overview:
The Regional Industry Director (RID) for Infrastructure and Natural Resources (INR) will be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and will oversee INR activities across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This leadership position requires a strategic mindset and a strong ability to manage and lead teams effectively. The RID will be responsible for developing and implementing the INR strategy in the region, ensuring that the business grows while achieving significant developmental impact and sustainable profitability. The role involves working closely with various stakeholders, including regional directors, country managers, and other industry directors, to position the INR business strategically within LAC. The RID will also chair investment review meetings, manage upstream and advisory engagements, and collaborate with IBRD/IDA and MIGA to develop regional sector strategies. This position is critical for driving IFC's mission and objectives in the region, focusing on creating and expanding markets and investment opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Regional Industry Director include:
  • Developing and implementing the INR strategy and priorities in partnership with regional and country management teams.
  • Leading and growing the INR business in the region, ensuring profitable and developmental new business and effective portfolio management.
  • Strategically positioning the INR business in LAC by developing country strategies in collaboration with regional leadership.
  • Chairing and managing investment review meetings, making decisions on IFC investments in the region.
  • Overseeing upstream and advisory engagements for INR in LAC.
  • Collaborating with senior management to execute INR's regional strategy.
  • Partnering with IBRD/IDA and MIGA to develop regional sector strategies.
  • Working closely with global industry teams to implement best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Leading business development strategies and ensuring proactive client and portfolio management. 1
  • Representing IFC to key clients and stakeholders, building long-term relationships with public sector institutions, MDBs, donors, and investors. 1
  • Acting as the primary supervisor for INR managers and staff in the region, implementing corporate initiatives to enhance efficiency and client service.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in economics, finance, or business, along with at least 15 years of relevant experience. A strong commitment to the World Bank Group and IFC's mission, strategy, and values is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of business delivery, investment experience, and superior business judgment. Experience in policy dialogue and established professional credibility in the INR sub-sectors is required. Candidates must also have strong knowledge of investment decision processes, including credit, legal, and environmental and social issues, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish, with Portuguese as a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant field such as economics, finance, or business. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of the infrastructure and natural resources sectors and for effectively leading strategic initiatives within the organization.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the infrastructure and natural resources sectors, with a strong emphasis on business delivery and investment management. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership and management skills, particularly in dynamic and multicultural environments. Experience in policy dialogue and the ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks are also essential for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory for this position, with Portuguese considered a valuable asset. Strong communication skills in these languages are necessary for effective stakeholder engagement and representation of the organization in various contexts.
