Job Overview: The Platform Engineer position is part of the World Bank Group's Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU), which aims to support the mission of ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity by delivering transformative information and technologies. The role focuses on designing and evolving developer-facing platforms that enhance the developer experience by reducing cognitive load and minimizing delivery friction. The position emphasizes platform product engineering, particularly in developing the Internal Developer Portal (IDP) and establishing standards and best practices for application teams. Duties and Responsibilities: The Platform Engineer will be responsible for a variety of key tasks, including: designing and evolving developer-facing platform services to improve the developer experience; identifying friction points in the application delivery lifecycle and translating them into platform capabilities; defining and maintaining golden paths, templates, and standards for secure and efficient delivery; operating an Internal Developer Portal (IDP) as the primary interface for platform capabilities; building and maintaining shared platform services using Infrastructure as Code; designing platform-level CI/CD capabilities; implementing governance-by-design through automated guardrails; and partnering with various teams to ensure platform services align with enterprise standards. The role requires a hands-on approach and excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across multiple engineering teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. They should have demonstrated experience in developer experience (DevEx), platform engineering, or internal platform product roles, distinct from operational or support-focused positions. Proven experience in designing platforms that improve developer experience and delivery efficiency is essential, along with strong technical communication and collaboration skills. Candidates should also have experience delivering platform engineering solutions within an Agile/SAFe Agile environment, applying iterative design and continuous refinement.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree. The educational background should support the technical and analytical skills necessary for platform engineering and developer experience roles.
Experience: Candidates should have significant experience in platform engineering or developer experience roles, with a strong emphasis on designing and delivering solutions that enhance developer workflows and reduce cognitive load. Experience in identifying and addressing friction points in the software delivery lifecycle is crucial, as is familiarity with Agile methodologies and iterative design processes.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered beneficial but is not explicitly required.
