Job Overview:
The Operations Analyst position at MIGA is a critical role that involves working closely with Transaction Team Leads on underwriting guarantee transactions. The successful candidate will be expected to possess strong project finance, public sector finance, and political risk insurance underwriting skills, with a preference for experience in the energy and general infrastructure sectors. The Operations Analyst will engage in various activities, including supporting business origination and transaction structuring, thereby gaining comprehensive knowledge of MIGA’s guarantee activities across different sectors and regions. This role is initially based in Washington, DC, but may be subject to decentralization as part of MIGA's regionalization agenda. The Operations Analyst will be instrumental in developing solutions to complex financial challenges faced by clients and will contribute to MIGA's mission of promoting sustainable development through effective financial instruments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Operations Analyst will be responsible for working on multi-disciplinary transaction teams within MIGA, engaging in the entire transaction lifecycle from underwriting to approvals and guarantee negotiation. Key duties include conducting independent research and analysis on investment projects, preparing complex financial models to assess financial viability, and engaging with clients through due diligence meetings. The analyst will also prepare guarantee pricing estimates, contribute to high-quality proposal documents, and participate in presentations to senior management. Collaboration with sector managers and regional heads will be essential to support new business origination and client management efforts. Additional responsibilities may include preparing talking points for client engagements, conducting integrity searches on potential clients, and providing analytical support for portfolio management activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, International Business, or a related field, along with at least 2 years of relevant experience. This experience should include non-recourse project finance work or analyzing and executing commercial or public sector investments, particularly in emerging markets. Familiarity with financial analysis focused on complex transactions in the infrastructure and energy sectors is essential. Experience with reputable global financial institutions, such as multi-lateral development banks or investment banks, is highly desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong understanding of emerging markets finance, credit guarantees, trade finance, and investment insurance.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, International Business, or a related field is required for this position. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in financial principles and practices, particularly as they relate to project finance and economic development in emerging markets.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience, which may include limited non-recourse project finance work or experience in analyzing and executing commercial or public sector investments. Candidates should have a background in financial analysis, particularly with a focus on complex transactions in the emerging markets, especially within the infrastructure and energy sectors. Experience gained from reputable global financial institutions is preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in French and/or Spanish is highly desirable, as it will enhance communication with a broader range of clients and stakeholders in various regions.
