Job Overview:
The E T Consultant- scientist" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Data Scientist Consultant position at the World Bank focuses on developing and applying resilient infrastructure analytics to address the impacts of natural hazards and climate change. The consultant will support the Resilient Infrastructure thematic area within the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR). The role involves enhancing the 'Infrascan' tool, which assesses multi-hazard exposure, vulnerability, and risk for infrastructure assets. The consultant will also engage with World Bank task teams to produce standardized notes and assist in interpreting results for policy dialogues. The position requires collaboration across various workstreams and the development of geospatial and quantitative tools to support infrastructure resilience initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties of the Data Scientist include developing and applying resilient infrastructure analytics, particularly through the 'Infrascan' tool. Responsibilities encompass refining the tool by integrating additional hazards, increasing automation, and contributing to a repository of local datasets. The consultant will also conduct network analysis to assess transport disruptions, advance geospatial analytics, and support methodologies for extreme event damage scenarios. Additionally, the Data Scientist will deliver knowledge products, operational toolkits, and presentations to enhance the capacity of task teams in resilient infrastructure operations. The role requires coordination with internal and external partners and contributing to program deliverables, including communication materials and results monitoring.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field such as data science, engineering, applied mathematics, or GIS, with a preference for a PhD. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience is required, focusing on resilience, climate change adaptation, or infrastructure. Technical expertise in programming, geospatial analysis, and quantitative skills is essential, including proficiency in Python, Stata, R, and GIS software. Experience in statistics, economics, and project management is also valued, along with strong problem-solving abilities and experience in managing technology-oriented products.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Master's degree in a related field, with a PhD preferred. Relevant fields include data science, engineering, applied mathematics, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Experience:
Candidates should have at least five years of relevant professional experience, excluding internships. This experience should focus on the economics or engineering of resilience, climate change adaptation, or infrastructure, demonstrating a progressive responsibility in these areas.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Portuguese is preferred. Proficiency in these languages will enhance communication and collaboration within diverse teams and with stakeholders.

This position is a local recruitment role with a term duration of one year.
