Job Overview: The Associate Communications Officer position is integral to the OSCE's communication strategy, focusing primarily on digital communications. The role involves providing comprehensive communication support and advice to key stakeholders within the organization. The successful candidate will work closely with other communications professionals to enhance the visibility and recognition of the OSCE. Responsibilities include maintaining the OSCE public website, developing communication products, and ensuring effective coordination among various departments and field operations. Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Communications Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Maintaining the content and structure of the OSCE public website daily, ensuring it is up-to-date and meets organizational needs.
Guiding and supporting internal website contributors, providing troubleshooting, training, and coaching as necessary.
Collaborating with OSCE Secretariat programs and departments to create and deliver communication products aligned with organizational priorities.
Coordinating with communications teams from OSCE Institutions and Field Operations to ensure streamlined and professional communication.
Developing engaging texts, visuals, and stories for distribution across various communication channels.
Participating in a duty roster and performing other duties as required to support the organization's communication objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a second-level university degree in journalism, communications, multimedia, political science, international affairs, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience will be accepted. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in communications, including social media, multimedia, and website management, is required. Experience in an international organization, NGO, or as a journalist is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate political judgment, analytical skills, and the ability to present the organization's activities convincingly to external audiences.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a second-level university degree in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, multimedia, political science, or international affairs. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of communication within an international context and for effectively engaging with diverse audiences.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in communications, with a preference for those who have worked in international organizations, NGOs, or journalism. Experience should include writing, editing, and producing communication materials, as well as managing social media and multimedia content. Familiarity with content management systems, particularly Drupal, is highly desirable. The ability to demonstrate political judgment and analytical skills is crucial for success in this role.
Languages: Professional fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of another OSCE official language is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader audience and contribute to the organization's multilingual communication efforts.
Additional Notes: This position is open for secondment only, meaning that candidates must be nominated by their respective participating States. All costs related to the assignment must be borne by the nominating authorities. Seconded staff members are not entitled to a Board and Lodging Allowance. The maximum period of service in this post is 10 years, and candidates must conduct themselves in a manner befitting the status of international civil servants.
