Job Overview:
The Science and Technology Technical Lead will play a crucial role in facilitating the work within the science and technology (S&T) domain of the IAEA, specifically focusing on nuclear security. This position involves providing expertise and delivering S&T content to Member States to assist them in developing and sustaining effective nuclear security capabilities. The role requires a recognized expert in nuclear security sciences and technologies, who will lead design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design, coordination, and delivery of nuclear security-related activities as outlined in the Nuclear Security Plan. The incumbent will also manage complex projects involving collaboration with experts from Member States and international organizations, and serve as a scientific secretary for international scientific meetings related to nuclear security.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Science and Technology Technical Lead will be responsible for coordinating and providing technical input related to nuclear S&T matters. This includes organizing and facilitating research projects, technical meetings, and consultancy meetings as required. The incumbent will develop and implement capacity-building activities in the S&T area, ensuring alignment with Member States' needs and priorities. Additionally, the role involves creating Nuclear Security Guidance documents and training materials, analyzing trends to drive innovation in research and development, and promoting the effective implementation of tools and applications for enhanced nuclear security. The incumbent may also be involved in activities that require exposure to radioactive materials, necessitating medical clearance and adherence to radiation safety regulations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field. Alternatively, a university degree in these fields with two years of relevant additional experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of seven years of experience in nuclear security, particularly in nuclear security science and technology, is required. This experience should include five years in research, development, and deployment of nuclear security systems. Proven project management experience and contributions to relevant research projects are essential, along with scientific knowledge in radiation detection equipment and physical protection systems.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, or another nuclear security-related field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in these areas may be considered if they have additional relevant experience. The educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in nuclear science and technology, as well as an understanding of nuclear security principles and practices.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of experience in the field of nuclear security, with a strong emphasis on nuclear security science and technology. Candidates should have experience in both national and international settings, with a focus on research, development, and deployment of nuclear security systems. Proven experience in roles such as project manager, researcher, program developer, and nuclear security operations is essential.
