Job Overview: In this role, you will be based in Brussels, Belgium, and will be part of a transformative journey to enhance NATO's IT services in alignment with NATO's Digital Endeavour. As a Senior Technician, you will be integrated into the Communications and Service Unit (CSU) in Brussels, which is responsible for managing, delivering, and maintaining Communications and Information System (CIS) products and services for various NATO customers, including NATO Headquarters and other internal users. Your role will involve providing first and second line network support, diagnosing and resolving voice incidents, and ensuring the smooth operation of network systems. You will also be responsible for monitoring network performance, implementing software patches, and maintaining documentation for Unified Communications systems. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying potential network issues and proposing improvements to enhance service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities: As a Senior Technician, your duties will include: providing first and second line network support to the Service Centre; diagnosing and resolving voice incidents and problems; installing, replacing, modifying, and configuring network systems; monitoring network systems and proactively reporting and resolving potential issues; performing software patching of Unified Communications systems; maintaining knowledge of implemented technologies; seeking recommendations for technical solutions; investigating and proposing improvements to equipment and configuration problems; liaising with other internal units and technical organizations; creating and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and documentation; and implementing procedures for monitoring and managing ICT infrastructure performance, providing reports as required.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must possess higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with at least 2 years of post-related experience, or a secondary educational qualification with 4 years of post-related experience. Additionally, you should have at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, a certification in Microsoft Lync or equivalent experience, and at least 2 years of experience with Unified Communications systems such as Microsoft Lync or Skype for Business. Familiarity with Voice Session Border Controllers and a good understanding of VoIP protocols and standards is essential. Experience with device management tools and O&M of PABX systems is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a higher vocational training in a relevant field or a secondary educational qualification, depending on the years of experience they possess. This educational background should be complemented by relevant certifications, particularly in Microsoft Lync or equivalent systems, to ensure a solid foundation for the technical demands of the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role, with a strong emphasis on operational, deployment, and configuration experience with Unified Communications systems. Candidates should also have experience with VoIP protocols, device management tools, and troubleshooting methodologies to effectively support the network and voice systems.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication within the diverse NATO environment.
