Job Overview:
The Archives Officer position is a critical role within the Information Governance and Preservation (IGP) Section of the IMF's Information Technology Department (ITD). The primary function of this position is to manage and process a backlog of archival records, which are predominantly in analogue format but may also include electronic records. The Archives Officer will work under the supervision of the Archives Team Lead and will be responsible for appraising, arranging, and describing records, as well as entering metadata into the online catalogue. This role is essential for ensuring that valuable Fund records are accessible to researchers and member countries in compliance with the IMF's Open Archives Policy (OAP). The officer will also be involved in enhancing records management systems and ensuring compliance with international standards and best practices in archives and records management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Archives Officer will have a variety of duties and responsibilities, including:
  • Archival Processing: a. Appraising records to remove extraneous, transitory, and irrelevant documentation. b. Arranging and describing records according to international archival standards, best practices, and internal processes. c. Performing basic condition assessments and identifying records requiring digitization, preservation, and/or conservation.
  • Catalogue Upload: a. Adding metadata to catalogue records in accordance with international standards and internal guidelines. b. Reviewing and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of metadata and descriptions. The Archives Officer will also perform other duties as assigned by the Section Chief or Team Lead, contributing to the overall mission of the IGP Section.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced university degree in archives management, records management, documents management, library and information sciences, or a related field of study. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of 6 years of professional experience is acceptable. Additionally, candidates must have at least 4 years of experience processing archival collections and applying international standards and best practices in archives and records management, as well as electronic records/archives management principles within archival systems.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in archives management, records management, documents management, library and information sciences, or a related field. A bachelor's degree in a related field combined with significant professional experience is also acceptable, specifically a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 4 years of experience in processing archival collections. This experience should include applying international standards and best practices in archives and records management, as well as familiarity with electronic records and archives management principles. Experience with records management systems, databases, and digital archiving tools is preferred.

Languages:
