Job Overview: The internship program within the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, specifically in the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section, seeks candidates who are eager to engage in a dynamic environment for a duration of three to six months. This unpaid, full-time internship requires interns to work five days a week, totaling 35 hours, under the guidance of a staff member. Interns will be involved in a range of activities including research and analysis, organizing training sessions, and facilitating regional policy dialogues. The program is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in trade policy and investment facilitation, while also encouraging candidates from Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States to apply, as their insights are invaluable for developing relevant policy interventions.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to assist in various tasks including conducting research on trade policies, analyzing data related to investment trends, and supporting the organization of training and capacity-building activities for policymakers. They will also help in organizing regional meetings, events, and forums aimed at enhancing trade facilitation. Interns will be required to collaborate with team members on projects, contribute to discussions, and provide input on policy recommendations. Additionally, they may be involved in preparing reports and presentations based on their research findings, as well as engaging with stakeholders to gather insights and feedback.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must be either enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or be in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No prior work experience is necessary, but candidates should possess skills and knowledge that can contribute to the work of the United Nations. A strong interest in international affairs, economics, law, or public policy is preferred, along with a proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in economics, law, international affairs, public policy, or related fields. This educational foundation will help interns understand the complexities of trade policy and investment issues, enabling them to contribute effectively to the Division's work. A focus on relevant coursework or research that aligns with the objectives of the internship will be beneficial.
Experience: While no specific work experience is required, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic training or skills that can be applied during the internship. This may include coursework, projects, or volunteer experiences that showcase their understanding of trade and investment issues, as well as their ability to conduct research and analysis.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official United Nations language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application. Proficiency in languages relevant to the Asia-Pacific region may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The internship can be conducted in person in Bangkok, remotely, or through a hybrid arrangement. Candidates are encouraged to specify their preferred mode of internship in their application. The application process requires a complete online submission, including a motivation letter and Personal History Profile. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
