Job Overview: The UN Economics and Data ManagementIntern position is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience about the operations of the UN system at the country level. Interns will work closely with the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in Bangkok, contributing to essential economics and data management tasks. This internship is a full-time, in-person role with the flexibility of remote work for two days a week, lasting for a duration of five months. Interns will gain insights into sustainable development, health, climate action, and disaster risk management, while also engaging in corporate reporting requirements and supporting the UN Country Team (UNCT) in their objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for conducting independent research and providing valuable inputs to reports and analyses produced by the UN RCO. They will focus on areas such as sustainable agricultural development, health, climate action, and disaster risk management, as well as youth, gender, and disability inclusion. Additional responsibilities include supporting the development and updating of databases, assisting the UNCT and UN RCO in meeting their annual monitoring and reporting requirements via the UNINFO platform, attending relevant capacity development initiatives and meetings, and preparing briefing materials. Interns may also be required to support any additional tasks undertaken by the RCO as needed.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must also possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion will be required during the application process. This educational background ensures that interns have the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the UN RCO's work.
Experience: The internship does not require prior professional work experience, making it accessible to students and recent graduates. However, familiarity with the UN system and its operations, as well as previous experience in relevant fields such as sustainable development or data management, would be considered advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application.
