Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the project "Accelerating the Transition to Electric Mobility for Public Transport in Asia and the Pacific (Phase II)". This project aims to facilitate the launch of pilot electric bus systems in four target countries: Lao PDR, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Tajikistan. The Project Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of project activities and outputs, which includes conducting research analysis, drafting and editing reports, and preparing project documentation. The role requires a proactive approach to support the project team in achieving the objectives of the project, ensuring that all outputs are completed in a timely and efficient manner. The Project Assistant will also contribute to the dissemination of project findings and best practices through the Asia-Pacific Initiative on Electric Mobility, thereby supporting peer learning among countries in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Assistant will be expected to undertake a variety of tasks to support the project team, including but not limited to:
Providing required data and analyses to inform project activities.
Drafting relevant financing inputs for project reports and documentation.
Editing, formatting, and designing project reports and other associated documents as necessary.
Assisting in the preparation of materials required for the on-the-ground implementation of pilot projects, particularly in Lao PDR, the Philippines, and Tajikistan.
Collaborating with the project officer and other team members to ensure the successful completion of project outputs.
Engaging with stakeholders to gather information and insights that will enhance project implementation.
Supporting the organization of workshops and meetings related to the project, including coordinating logistics and preparing materials.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess a university degree in transport, civil engineering, urban planning, economics, international relations, or a related discipline. Required qualifications include:
Experience on transport-related topics in Asia and the Pacific, preferably with involvement in coordinating multi-stakeholder projects or organizing national-level workshops in collaboration with government counterparts.
Demonstrated ability in drafting and editing materials on transport and/or international development issues, preferably in the Asia-Pacific context.
Familiarity with the Sustainable Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals and indicators. Desirable qualifications include:
Experience in the UN secretariat or other UN common system entity.
Experience or familiarity with the UN editorial manual.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a university degree in a relevant field such as transport, civil engineering, urban planning, economics, international relations, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of transport systems and the socio-economic factors influencing them, particularly in the context of sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in transport-related topics, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region. This includes experience in coordinating multi-stakeholder projects and organizing workshops at the national level in collaboration with government entities. Candidates should also have a proven track record in drafting and editing materials related to transport and international development, demonstrating their ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
Languages: Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for drafting reports, engaging with stakeholders, and participating in discussions related to the project. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Asia-Pacific region may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.
