Job Overview:
The Financial Reporting Accountant position at IFPRI is a critical role within the Finance and Administration Division, responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with donor requirements. The successful candidate will be tasked with the timely preparation of financial reports and invoices for various donors, monitoring project spending, and addressing inquiries related to financial matters. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can analyze financial data and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Financial Reporting Accountant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Preparing periodic financial reports and invoices for a diverse range of donors, ensuring accuracy and compliance with donor guidelines.
  • Monitoring billed and unbilled receivables to identify delinquent payments and ensure timely billing of costs.
  • Analyzing project spending in relation to financial reporting to provide insights and recommendations.
  • Uploading deliverables into the Enterprise Content Management system (OnBase) to maintain organized records.
  • Preparing journal entries for billing and invoicing processes.
  • Addressing internal and external inquiries regarding project financial matters, providing clarity and support as needed.
  • Assisting with the annual audit process to ensure compliance and transparency.
  • Conducting financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by management to support the Finance and Administration Division.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with at least two years of professional experience in financial administration. Alternatively, an associate’s degree combined with five years of relevant experience will be considered. Strong analytical skills are essential, as is proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively communicate financial information and collaborate with team members and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. An associate’s degree may be acceptable if accompanied by significant relevant experience. Candidates pursuing or holding professional qualifications such as CA, CS, or CWA will be given preference, indicating a commitment to professional development in the field of finance and accounting.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in financial administration, particularly within project-based organizations. Candidates with extensive experience in managing financial reporting and compliance in a multicultural environment will be highly regarded. Experience with government contracting regulations in South Asian countries and familiarity with US GAAP regulations will also be beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is crucial in financial reporting and collaboration. While not mandatory, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in a multicultural work environment.
