Job Overview:
The Mechanical Engineer position is a critical role within the UNDP-KOS office, focusing on the procurement process as an individual contractor. The selected candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise in mechanical engineering, contributing to the planning, design, and implementation of projects that align with UNDP's mission in Kosovo. The role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure that projects meet the required standards and specifications. The assignment is set to begin in July 2026 and will last until July 2028, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. The Mechanical Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring that all engineering aspects of the projects are executed efficiently and effectively, adhering to UNDP's guidelines and best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Mechanical Engineer will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting feasibility studies and assessments for mechanical systems; designing and reviewing mechanical engineering plans and specifications; ensuring compliance with local and international engineering standards; collaborating with project managers and other engineers to develop project timelines and budgets; providing technical support during the procurement process; evaluating bids and proposals from suppliers and contractors; overseeing the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems; conducting inspections and quality assurance checks on mechanical works; preparing technical reports and documentation; and participating in project meetings and workshops to provide engineering insights and recommendations. The role may also involve training and mentoring junior engineers and technical staff, ensuring knowledge transfer and capacity building within the team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of mechanical systems, design principles, and engineering practices. Proficiency in engineering software and tools is essential, as well as familiarity with procurement processes and project management methodologies. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field is mandatory for this position. Advanced degrees such as a master's in mechanical engineering or project management would be considered an asset. Candidates with professional certifications in engineering or project management will have an advantage in the selection process.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in the context of procurement and project implementation. Experience working with international organizations or in a development context is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing engineering projects from conception to completion, including experience in contract management and supplier negotiations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Kosovo would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate better communication with local stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This position is a long-term assignment with a duration from July 2026 to July 2028, with the possibility of extension based on project requirements and performance evaluations. The role is classified as an individual contractor position, and candidates should be prepared to work full-time.
