Job Overview: The coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">MEAL Coordinator position is crucial for strengthening the quality, accountability, monitoring, evaluation, and learning components of humanitarian programs. The role involves developing and implementing robust MEAL systems and methodologies to ensure effective monitoring of program performance. The coordinator will support evidence-based decision-making, enhance accountability to affected populations, and promote continuous learning while ensuring compliance with donor and organizational standards. The position also aims to improve data quality, program adaptation, operational accountability, and the overall effectiveness of interventions across all implementation areas. The MEAL Coordinator will face challenges such as complex humanitarian access constraints, high-risk public health environments, and the need for continuous coordination with local authorities. The role requires strong technical coordination across multiple sectors and partners, as well as the ability to manage variable team capacities across locations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The MEAL Coordinator will be responsible for structuring and strengthening the MEAL department at both coordination and field levels. This includes developing and harmonizing MEAL systems, tools, processes, and reporting mechanisms in line with organizational standards and donor requirements. The coordinator will provide capacity building and technical support to MEAL and program staff through mentoring, training, supervision, and continuous follow-up to reinforce data quality and accountability. Additionally, the role involves operationalizing Feedback and Complaint Response Mechanisms (FCRM) to ensure accountability to affected populations and proper management of community feedback. The coordinator will also strengthen information management, data analysis, and reporting systems to ensure timely and accurate information is available for informed decision-making. The position requires managing multiple priorities and deadlines while ensuring quality implementation and compliance with procedures and standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of MEAL systems, methodologies, and tools in humanitarian and emergency response contexts. Proven experience in designing and implementing monitoring frameworks, indicator tracking systems, and data collection methodologies is essential. Experience in developing and managing accountability mechanisms, including FCRM, is also required. Strong information management and data visualization skills, including proficiency in Excel and data management platforms such as Kobo, ODK, or Power BI, are necessary. Candidates should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments, and strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent reporting, drafting, and presentation skills are also required.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in engineering, Biology, Water Resources Management, Humanitarian/Development/Political Studies, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates should have a solid educational foundation that supports their understanding of the humanitarian sector and the specific challenges faced in emergency response contexts.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 3 to 4 years in a similar position. This experience should include a strong background in MEAL systems and methodologies, as well as practical experience in monitoring and evaluation within humanitarian settings.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered a bonus, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in the operational context of South Sudan.

The role is based in Juba, South Sudan, which is currently the main operational hub for SI. The salary for this position starts from EUR 2860 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly Per Diem of USD 700 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation costs and travel expenses. During the assignment, a system of alternating work and time off is implemented, allowing for breaks every three months, with an additional rest day granted for each month worked. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs.
