Job Overview: The Research Analyst I position at IFPRI is a critical role within the Development Strategy and Governance Unit, where the selected candidate will engage in comprehensive research support for quantitative studies. The analyst will work on diverse topics such as agricultural productivity, market and value chain development, migration, and the interconnections between agriculture and nutrition. This role involves cleaning and statistically analyzing large datasets, preparing visual representations of findings, and writing research results. The analyst will also conduct training sessions on survey design and data analysis, manage datasets, and prepare presentations. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Research Analyst I include, but are not limited to: performing data cleaning and maintenance, collecting and analyzing data using STATA, assisting in econometric analysis, conducting literature reviews, and synthesizing research findings. The analyst will also assist in drafting and editing research papers, blogs, policy briefs, and technical guidance documents. Participation in knowledge exchanges and staying updated on relevant literature and policies is essential. The analyst will be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall research objectives of the unit.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or closely related fields, along with two years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree in the aforementioned fields. Proficiency in data management and analysis using STATA is required, along with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Strong communication skills are essential for providing updates, proposing next steps, and effectively communicating research findings. Candidates should exhibit a willingness to learn and self-teach new technical skills, as well as the ability to conduct literature reviews and draft policy briefs and research papers. Experience in preparing research presentations and excellent interpersonal skills are also necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree in these fields is preferred and may substitute for the required professional experience. Candidates should have a strong foundation in quantitative research methods and data analysis techniques, particularly using STATA.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least two years of relevant professional experience in research or a related field. Experience in conducting econometric analysis and working with large datasets is essential. Additionally, candidates with experience in research paper and proposal development will be preferred, particularly those who have worked in developing countries.

Additional Notes: The Research Analyst I position is based in Washington, DC, and offers a hybrid work environment, allowing staff to work in-office for a minimum of two days per week, with the option to work remotely for the remaining days. The expected salary range for this position is between $55,600 and $69,500, depending on experience and other job-related factors. IFPRI provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance coverage, which is available to active, non-temporary, full-time and part-time US-based employees who work at least 25 hours per week.
