The office is involved in various initiatives including counter narcotics, organized crime, border management, and health-related initiatives.

It is an unpaid, part-time position requiring interns to work five days a week for a total of 25 hours. Interns will work under the supervision of professional staff and will be involved in supporting the implementation of activities within the framework of the UNODC Programme for Central Asia 2022-202
This includes providing support for organizing meetings, drafting training materials, assisting in social media campaigns, and conducting web research on relevant issues. The role is designed to give interns practical experience in the operations of the UNODC and to contribute to significant projects that address critical issues in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The selected intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
Supporting the organization of meetings, events, and conferences to strengthen engagement with UN system partners.
Assisting in processing, drafting, and finalizing training materials.
Providing assistance in social media campaigns to promote UNODC initiatives.
Developing communication materials based on good practices and achievements.
Conducting data collection related to science, technology, and innovation practices.
Assisting with archiving tasks, including preparing procurement materials for archiving and updating the register of archived files.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must be pursuing a graduate degree in law, international relations, management, business administration, finance, social sciences, or other relevant academic disciplines. They must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have recently completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications, have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in or having recently completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Applicants must provide proof of their academic status as part of the application process.
Experience: Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship being applied for is necessary. This means that while prior work experience is not mandatory, relevant academic knowledge and skills are essential for the role.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English and Russian is required for the internship. Knowledge of Kazakh is desirable, and knowledge of an additional official UN language (such as Arabic, Chinese, French, or Spanish) is considered an advantage. English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Additional Notes: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
